Property purchase creates perfect space for producing blog and video content
At only 22, Hazel Wood, purchased her first home at Redrow’s The Mulberries development in the Essex town of Witham. Leaving school at 16 to complete an apprenticeship, Hazel saved for two years to afford the 5% deposit she needed to purchase a one bedroom apartment using Help to Buy.
Commenting on her journey to homeownership, Hazel said, “When I first started looking at houses to purchase in January 2018, I thought I would need to save for a few more years as everything on the market where I could see myself living was out of my price range. Then I came across The Mulberries and it immediately seemed perfect for me. “
“Witham has a very similar vibe to Maldon, where I grew up too, it is a lovely quaint town with lots of nice shops and independent family run restaurants. The town is ideal for me too, as it’s only a 10 minute drive into Chelmsford where I work at a financial services company and there is also a train station nearby (which I sometimes even walk to and from!) for those days I don’t want to drive to work or for heading into London at the weekend.”
The fashion and lifestyle blogger (@hazelwoodx), who has even created a dedicated Instagram for her new home (@firsthomewithhazel), was keen for her own space so she could focus more of her time on building her presence on YouTube (username ‘Hazel Wood’).
“It is amazing to have my own kitchen and living space. It has meant I have been able to be more creative in my YouTube videos and also create content on home interiors and cooking!”
Hazel purchased a one bedroom apartment at The Mulberries and used our innovative My Redrow platform. Hazel commented, “I had a lot of questions for the sales team throughout the process and they were so great at getting back to me and answering all my emails. I also used My Redrow to upgrade my wardrobe, I wanted mirrored wardrobes as it is easier for filming make-up tutorials and putting together outfit posts. You get status updates on your build through the My Redrow app too, which is a great way of keeping track of how things are progressing.”
Hazel is one of the first to move-in to The Mulberries but has found that our welcome party really helped to create a sense of community, “Before we moved in, Redrow organised a welcome party so I got to meet all my neighbours before I picked up my keys. I think that was really helpful as it means I know who I am living near and if I did have a problem I would feel comfortable knocking on my neighbours doors.”
Hazel was able to use the Government backed Help to Buy scheme to purchase her new home, meaning that she was able to purchase the £198,000 apartment with just a £10,000 deposit. Hazel commented, “I had heard about Help to Buy before and thought that it sounded great. It meant that I could purchase a home a bit earlier than I thought possible. Ideally, I would have liked to purchase a larger property but you can obviously only borrow so much for a mortgage and my one bedroom apartment is easily affordable month to month. If I did look to move in a few years’ time I would definitely consider staying at The Mulberries as I really like the location and the houses that are being built look lovely.”
We are delivering 750 homes at The Mulberries on Hatfield Road. The Mulberries, and our second outlet The Junipers, currently offer a choice of three, four and five bedroom bespoke homes. Alongside new homes we are making a series of contributions to the local community, including £4.8 million towards education. Contributions are also being made towards the community hall, town centre and outdoor sports facilities.
