When Redrow began building near his home, Martin Ward marched into the sales office to give them a piece of his mind – but instead of telling them how much he disliked the development, he ended up buying a brand-new home!
The 65-year-old father of two was so impressed by our house styles and the design of Springfields in Highburton, he reserved a three-bedroom detached Warwick property.
“And I wasn’t even planning to move,” admits Martin, who has just given Redrow 10 out of 10 after completing his NHBC post-completion survey. “I had originally objected to the development and so I thought I would go in and tell them how much I disapproved of them building in our village.
“But I fell in love with it and the properties. It’s a lovely development and Redrow has put so much care and thought into it. I was sold straight away.”
Martin moved into his new home with partner Sue, 62, just over two months ago and says it is already starting to feel like home. “It’s so comfortable and we’ve already had our three grandchildren over to stay. There’s so much space, it’s just perfect.
“Now I can’t wait for the summer when the house will come into its own and we can get out into the garden and enjoy getting the family all together here.”
Martin was born and bred in Highburton, near Huddersfield, and had previously lived in a four-bedroom townhouse not far from his new Redrow home, but says it started to make sense to look to the future when choosing his new property and going for two floors instead of three.
He and Sue opted for the Warwick because they loved the spacious kitchen / dining area where everyone can gather while cooking and eating. The motoring journalist says: “We’ve never had a dining kitchen before and it’s huge. Previously we’ve always struggled to get everybody around the table but now we can manage it without any problem, and it’s great that there’s so much space for the grandchildren to play, especially since we added a conservatory.”
Downstairs is a separate lounge in which to relax and a cloakroom too, and upstairs are three bedrooms, the master benefiting from an en-suite, and a family bathroom.
“And there’s an integral garage, which is my den,” says Martin.
He adds: “It was really exciting choosing everything - from the kitchen, where we went for gloss white kitchen cabinets with a sparkly black granite work surface; to the bathrooms and all the flooring, and then buying new furniture to match.
“The quality of our home is excellent, just like the whole process from reserving our home to the after-sales and after-care.
“Whenever we have moved into a house before it’s always been someone else’s, but buying a brand-new home means you can put your mark on it and it is yours – and only ever yours. That’s a great experience.”
