21st December 2023
Redrow Inspiration - Character 59622

At Redrow we’re known for creating homes with architectural character, while our interior specification offers premium quality. . It’s why you don’t just want a new build home, you want a Redrow. Read on to discover how to add even more character inside your home when you decorate.

Our heritage your future

  1. Redrow was founded in 1974, originally as a civil engineering company. This year we’ll be marking our 50th anniversary in business – watch this space for details of how we’ll be celebrating. We built our first private sale housing development in 1982 and since then have developed a rich heritage for building quality homes in sought-after locations.
  2. If you’re wondering how to add character to a new build, we have the solution as our Heritage Collection homes offer traditional architecture inspired by the Arts & Crafts era combined with leading energy efficiency. For example, the Highgrove , the largest of our homes is a magnificent double-fronted property with tapered walls is reminiscent of a traditional manor house and the epitome of Arts & Crafts inspired architecture. Solid and striking, finished in rough-cast white render, with an arched porchway, the Highgrove is full of charm and character.
  3. While externally our homes are reminiscent of those built in the 1930s, inside they’re designed to meet the demands of modern living with family-friendly layouts and a superb specification. Our homes are generously proportioned, with spacious rooms. We have the highest ceilings amongst our peers in the industry, along with taller doors, skirtings and architraves to help emphasise the spaciousness of our homes.

How do you personalise a newly built home?

A new Redrow home offers a blank canvas. Subject to build stage you can choose from a whole host of options and upgrades room by room via My Redrow. Our show homes showcase some of the options available while also showcasing current home decorating trends.

  1. Recognising the importance of the kitchen in any home, it’s the first room listed in My Redrow. We have a whole menu of options when it comes to how to personalise a new build kitchen. We offer a choice of contemporary or characterful Shaker style cabinets in a range of finishes in line with the latest kitchen trends for 2024. For example, a Harvard Hunter Green Shaker st yle kitchen is in keeping with the biophilic trend for interiors. Or you may want to add texture and depth with timber effect accent cabinetry; combinations include urban matt white with a choice of driftwood finishes. All our kitchen options can be paired with a range of worktop options including laminate, granite or quartz worktops. A kitchen island can be added in some house types. Integrated appliances, from top brand manufacturers, are included in our kitchens with the option to switch brands; select a gas ceramic or induction hob; add extra appliances such as a dishwasher or wine cooler.
  2. Bathroom suites are white, with a choice of either contemporary curved or elegant cubed sanitaryware available. Texture, colour and shimmer elements can be added with your choice of tiles at full or half height. There’s also the option to add a basin unit, in a choice of finishes, to provide storage for your bathroom essentials while making a luxurious style statement. Or you could add an illuminated or demister mirror. For more bathroom inspiration read our guide
  3. Flooring options available via My Redrow to help personalise your new home include Amtico vinyl or Porcelanosa tiles to the kitchen and adjacent areas. Carpets can be added as an optional extra to the living room, stairs and landing, and bedrooms. For additional texture and interest, you could utilise a statement rug, perhaps in natural fibres following the biophilic trend.
  4. A new home means a new garden; another blank canvass to make your own. Options available via My Redrow include extending the patio or adding turf but you could use different ground coverings such as decking or stones to add character and divide your outside space into zones. Planters, pergolas, arches, furniture and lighting can also add personality and colour. Read our guide for more inspiration on how to add character to your new garden.

When can you decorate a new home?

Ideally you should wait until the drying out process is complete before repainting or wallpapering. We recommend holding off from decorating for at least 18 months. This gives time for you to plan your interior room by room while your home dries out. Watch this handy video to discover more about painting your new home.

If you’re looking for home interior design ideas, we’ve put together a guide to the latest interior design trends 2024 to help inspire your décor. It covers everything from colour trends to how to bring biophilic patterns into your interiors and how to inject fun and pops of colour into your styling.

How to make a new house a home

There are lots of home decorating items that can add character to your interiors. With these new build décor ideas you’ll be able to personalise your home even before it’s ready to decorate.

  1. Artwork and mirrors are a great way to add character to a home as they provide an opportunity to test out colours, textures, patterns and shapes. Watch the video below to discover how to securely fix items to your walls.
  2. Family favourites such as heirloom pieces of statement furniture or artefacts that have been passed down through the generations can help your new house feel like home. Use these items to create a focal point within a room that will also be a talking point when you have guests round. Mix old with new items or consider upcycling with a lick of paint or perhaps replacing handles on a much-loved sideboard.
  3. 3Scent can provide reassurance and comfort and finding a signature scent for your home is easy as we’ve created our very own fragrance Home: By Redrow. Available as a reed diffuser, it’s a fresh and floral with top notes of citrus and blackberry. Find out more about our scent here.
  4. Lighting can be used for dynamic effect to add character to your home, rather than simply being functional. Add a contemporary edge to your décor with structurally shaped fittings or consider texturised metals for more a futuristic look. For more lighting inspiration read our guide to lighting trends 2024.
  5. Soft furnishings can be used to add colour and texture. Focus on quality linens and textiles in sheen and matte fibres that encourage touch for a relaxing cocooning environment. Embrace the natural trend by incorporating upscaled tropical motifs in your textiles, such as cushions and curtains.

The people who live in our homes

The characterful exteriors and options for personalisation are what sets our Heritage Collection homes apart from other properties, both old and new. But don’t just take our word for it.

Claire chose to relocate to Foxbridge Manor in Castle Donington rather than renovate.

Redrow Inspiration - Character Claire

“We’re absolutely thrilled with our new home – we’ve been able to add our own stamp to the place while embracing the home’s natural character,” she said.

“From the first time we visited the development, we were impressed. All the homes have beautiful, big front gardens which is amazing and feels so different to a lot of other new-builds we looked at – Foxbridge Manor definitely has a lot of character.

“We have no more plans to move again – this is our forever home now.”

Her sentiments were echoed by Angela, who lives in a three-bedroom Oxford Lifestyle at Worden Gardens in Leyland.

Redrow Inspiration - Character Angela

“With a new home it’s like a blank canvas and so you can design it and furnish it exactly how you want,” said Angela.

“We chose Redrow upgrades including a granite-style worktop and kitchen island – I love it when friends come over and we can sit and chat while I finish cooking dinner - and fitted wardrobes in all the bedrooms. Mum had her bathroom fully tiled and we had spotlights in the bathrooms and kitchen, and an internal door into the garage which is really handy.

Angela’s home features a warm grey colour scheme with pops of colour in a funky red velvet armchair in the kitchen beside a picture of a woman drinking a glass of red wine, and bright multi cushions on the grey leather sofa in the lounge.

“We are very fortunate,” added Angela. “We have been able stamp our own personality on it, and it looks like a show home.”
