Daily Ways to Save Water at Home

11th March 2024
Redrow - Inspiration - Daily Ways to Save Water at Home

Today is World Water Day. We use water in many everyday activities including drinking, cooking, and washing to name just a few.

Did you know, an average bath consumes 80 litres of water per use, while a shower uses only 46 litres per use?

Top tips on how you can save on your water consumption

By being conscious of your everyday habits and mindful of your water consumption, you can help save water.

  • Reduce shower time: Try spending 60 seconds less in the shower. This could save up to 15 litres of water!
  • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth. Did you know if you leave the tap running you could waste up to 12 litres of water?

  • Fill up a jug of drinking water and keep it in the fridge. This way you will always have cold drinking water to hand without wasting water waiting for the tap to run cold.
  • Eat fewer water dense foods such as avocados, meat and dairy.
  • Wash your clothes with a full machine rather than half.
  • Whilst waiting for your hot water to run, collect the cold and use it to water plants.
  • Use just enough water to submerge your food when boiling potatoes, pasta or other foodstuffs – this will save water and energy.
  • Use the sink or a washing up bowl when washing up instead of washing your plates and cutlery under a running tap.
