What colour to paint the hallways
If you’re looking for hallway decorating ideas, we’ve got plenty of inspiration to help set the tone for the rest of your home.
Choose a colour scheme for your hallway that coordinates or tones with the décor in your adjoining rooms to create a sense of flow and harmony.
Use a two-tone colour scheme to draw the eye down the hallway to the rooms in your home. This helps give the illusion of elongating the space and creates a link between the ground floor hall and the first floor landing. Helen Joseph, from our in-house interior design team said: “At Redrow we love using textured wallpaper on larger walls such as the staircase, with a complementary or contrasting pop of colour to the adjoining walls.”
For an on trend soft glamour look pair textured neutral wallpaper with statement pendant lights in ribbed glass and raw brass for a more muted and overall, less glitzy look. This understated style is particularly well suited to the spacious interiors of our Heritage Collection, where it also complements the classic exteriors.
Hallway accessories
Create a gallery effect in your hallway by hanging pictures in groups with complementary or contrasting frames. This can both personalise and add character to the space. Focus on one side of the hallway to draw the eye and help make the space appear wider, Helen added: “This works particularly well on a staircase wall.”
Mirrors can also be placed in the hallway to create the illusion of space. Combine style and practicality by incorporating a coat rack or somewhere to hang handbags into your hallway décor.
Bringing the outside into our homes remains a key trend for new homes in particular. Perfectly placed plants on either side of the front door add a sense of symmetry to the space.
Hallway flooring ideas
Tiles are a practical option when it comes to hallway flooring ideas as footprints can easily be cleaned with a flick of a mop. We offer a choice of hallway tiling options for our new build homes, from top brand names including Amtico and Porcelanosa available via My Redrow. Options include parquet, plank effect and ceramic tiles.
Remember that how you lay your flooring can also impact the sense of space. Chevrons, bold geometrics or horizontal lines will make it feel wider; while vertical lines will elongate the space.
A rug or runner can be added on top of your hallway tiles for a welcoming effect. A hallway runner on top of tiles laid in a vertical line can interrupt the flow and prevent it from seeming overlong and narrow. You can explore flooring options via My Redrow.
