With the 368sq miles of Dartmoor National Park right on your doorstep, there are endless possibilities for your leisure time. You can enjoy miles of way-marked walks around the Dartmoor tors for all levels of fitness, or for the less active, there is a regular heritage train service in the summer months, or you can just take a delightful drive through the countryside.

Okehampton shopping has grown to serve the tourist trade, with a choice of the modern Red Lion Yard shopping mall and traditional Victorian arcades. For out of town shopping, try the outlet stores at Mole Avon. There is a Sunday market in the town during the summer months, plus a Farmers’ Market every 1st and 3rd Saturday.

For a more extensive shopping trip, head for Exeter, where you’ll find the Princesshay, Guildhall and Harlequins shopping centres, as well as the designer bargains of the Atlantic Village Outlet in Bideford. Plymouth also offers a wide selection of shops, including Drake Circus in the heart of the city.

Okehampton lies close to the A30 trunk route, which now by-passes the town on a major dual carriageway. This links swiftly to Exeter, around 20miles away, and to Plymouth, via the A386, which is around 30miles away. Exeter is home to Exeter Airport, with flights across the UK and Europe, and you can also pick up the M5 here for all routes north and east.

Trains from Exeter reach Bristol in 1hr, London Paddington in as little as 2hrs 10mins and Birmingham in around 2½hours. Following the recent problems with the mainline from Exeter to Plymouth, where it was washed away at Dawlish, Network Rail are considering reinstating services via Okehampton as an alternative route, which would make the town even better connected.

Ways to Help You Move

Help to Buy

With the Government backed Help to Buy scheme you can move in to a new Redrow home with as little as a 5% deposit.*

The 'Help to Buy: Equity Loan' is available exclusively to first-time buyers in the following way:

Help to Buy: Equity Loan

  • Only new build homes qualify.
  • You'll need a minimum of 5% deposit to qualify.
  • It’s available to first-time buyers purchasing a single property who do not currently own a property in or outside of the UK only.
  • The Government will lend you up to 20% of the value of your new home through an equity loan, which can be repaid at any time within 25 years (or on the sale of your home, whichever is sooner).
  • Meaning you'll only need to secure up to 75% mortgage from a bank or building society.
  • The equity loan is interest-free for the first five years.
  • In London, the higher property costs are reflected by a 40% equity loan being offered, meaning you only need to secure a 55% mortgage.
  • The price of the home you can buy using Help to Buy depends on where it is in England.

What is Help to Sell?

Help to Sell is a great way to make moving home simpler. It enables you to buy a brand new Redrow home, while we take care of selling your current property for you; even helping out with a contribution towards your estate agent's fees. With Help to Sell, we'll arrange the valuations, appoint an estate agent to conduct your home's marketing activity and take the paperwork off your hands too.

How does it work?

Help to Sell helps you move into your brand new Redrow home in four simple steps:

Step 1 - Choose your new Redrow home
