What are the benefits of underfloor heating?

Underfloor heating is a very efficient way to heat a room, especially the large open-plan spaces in our Heritage Collection homes. As well as providing an ambient, comfortable temperature throughout the room, it gives you more freedom when it comes to styling as you don’t need to think about radiators on walls.

What is underfloor heating?

Underfloor heating is a way of heating a room via the ground up through embedding heating elements in the floor as opposed to the more common approach of heating a room using radiators attached to the wall. In our Eco Electric homes, we use a ‘wet’ underfloor heating system which means warm water is passed through pipes under the floor.

How does underfloor heating work?

In our Eco Electric homes, we use an air source heat pump to provide the home with heating and hot water. Outside air is blown over a network of tubes filled with a refrigerant. This warms up, and it turns from a liquid into a gas. It’s passed through a compressor, into a heat exchanger and surrounded by cool water, making it warm.

This warm water is then circulated around the ground floor of the home via a network of pipes under the floor, warming the room from the ground up and generating enough heat to keep even large open-plan spaces warm.
