How to access your loft

Whether you're considering future storage solutions, checking essential utilities, or simply curious about your home's infrastructure, knowing the correct and safe access procedures for your attic space is crucial.
This guide specifically tailored for Redrow homes will walk you through the simple steps to gain entry to your loft, ensuring you're prepared for any eventuality.

In all our homes, access is straightforward, and the loft is where you’ll find the TV cables. If your home has solar panels on the roof, the cables for these will be in the loft too.
Other than that, there aren’t many other reasons to head up there particularly often. Because your home is new, the loft space is important for letting moisture out to avoid dampness. To make sure this can happen effectively, we recommend keeping the space clear and avoiding boarding over the loft insulation.
However, should you need to access the loft space for checking TV cables or anything else, it’s simple:
- First, find the loft hatch. This is usually located on the landing of the upper floor, outside the bedrooms.
- You’ll need a ladder to reach the hatch door, so carefully place a stable stepladder or similar in position.
- Once you’re on the ladder, you’ll need to pull the loft cover slightly towards you to unclasp. Then you’ll need to lower it gently, taking care not to damage it.
- After you’re finished, make sure to close the loft hatch behind you.
