How to use the windows and doors in your new home
Knowing how to lock the doors and windows is one of the most important steps in keeping your new home secure.
Both doors and windows in Redrow homes are straightforward to use, but our simple guide below lays out how to make sure all the windows and doors are locked tight. You can also watch a quick video showing how to check.
The front door is simple - after you’ve pulled it shut behind you, just lift the handle and turn the lock. The windows might be a little trickier, because there may be a few different types around the property. No matter what type of windows you have, they should all be able to extend fully. Make sure to check this, as this can be essential as a fire escape.
All the windows can be locked while keeping open a gap to let air in for ventilation. To do this, have a look inside the frame - you’ll spot two notches. The first one will be where the window closes, and the second one allows a gap for air circulation. To lock with a gap, you’ll need to pull the window almost closed in this position, then pull the handle down.
Bathroom windows
All bathroom windows in Redrow homes open in a single slide - this means it’s simple to clean the outside pane. To lock the bathroom window, pull it closed and turn the key with the handle in the downward position.
Bedroom windows
Windows in the bedrooms of your new home don’t open all the way as a default, and lock without a key. If you need to open them fully - for example to clean the outside of the pane - start by opening it halfway.
You’ll notice latches at the top and bottom of the window frame. Push them both in to extend the window and slide it across.
Other windows in your home
Windows in other rooms of the house may operate slightly differently too. For other windows, you’ll slide the window open slightly and locate a purple switch in the casing of the window. You should be able to slide this across, and then extend the window fully.
