Dulux Colour of the Year - 2020

25th October 2019
Redrow - Inspiration - Dulux Colour of the Year 2020

With new muted tones coming through the pale green of Tranquil Dawn - selected as Dulux’s much anticipated ‘colour of the year’ - it’s reminiscent of a dreamlike misty morning.

We love it’s versatility – it blends with a host of other colours - and air of calm, which is much needed in our busy lives.

How was the colour chosen?

Every year Dulux paint colour specialists at its Global Aesthetic Centre assemble a team of top international design experts to discuss the new global trends that will affect us all.

Dulux explains: “We work on transforming these insights into one key paint colour trend that will have an impact on homes all over the world. Then we create four beautiful palettes around the Colour of the Year, with a mood and style to suit everyone.

“As 2020 is the start of a new decade, it’s a fresh start. A new dawn. In an increasingly hectic and digital world, there is a desire for meaning and kindness. So, inspired by the colours of the morning sky, our colour experts have created an inspiring new shade, Tranquil Dawn.”

How we like to use it in our Show Homes

The grey and green and faint hint of blue coming through Tranquil Dawn really sets the tone for a soothing space. While it’s versatile enough to be used in any room, we think it’s ideal for a bedroom, to create a peaceful environment just perfect for slumber.

It’s a subtle backdrop for natural tones, including darker greens, tan and white. We love how it sets off this textured lamp base and clay coloured throw (above).

Dulux adds: “When used with a sandy tone, it creates a relaxed and nurturing space for focusing on well-being and positive interactions. Comforting fabrics, cushions and throws, warm woods and mood-boosting indoor plants complete this light and airy look.”

Equally, if you have a room that’s the hub of your home, it can be a harmonising backdrop. It works well with most kitchen units and worktops, and brings a sense of composure for busy areas like open plan family and dining rooms.

Use on all walls, or as a feature wall, to provide a background for bolder artwork, clocks or furniture. We think it looks beautiful with this light shaker style kitchen (above) and dark wood dining table.

To create a naturally inspired room to calm all of the senses, add greenery, plus recyled, imperfect or woven textures and smooth glass and ceramic accessories.
