Dozens of causes entered the Community Fund, created by Redrow East Midlands, and two of the charities to receive support are Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity and Bus Park Community Hub and Café.
Our developments include Hackwood Grange, on Starflower Way, and The Nook, on Egginton Road – began the Community Fund as a way of supporting local organisations and charities.
Local charity, Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity, provides aid and support to asylum-seekers and refugees who find themselves living in Derbyshire. Started in 2015, the charity sends aid to displaced individuals in camps in Greece and France, as well as offering support sessions to refugees living in Derbyshire. The charity used the funds to support their English lessons, as well as extending their spoken word and music sessions aimed at helping their beneficiaries learn the English language.
The other organisation to benefit from the pot of funding was Bus Park Community Hub and Café, which provides hot meals to local residents. The donation was used to provide 50 elderly and vulnerable individuals, who live in Swandlincote and surrounding villages, with a freshly cooked, hot dinner with pudding from Monday to Friday on a weekly basis.
Steve Cooke, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity, says: “The donation made by Redrow East Midlands was very gratefully received. We have used this money to support our conversational lessons, helping the refugees and asylum-seekers learn the language of the country they now live in.
“Every penny helps, even if it’s buying something simple like pens, stationery or even hygiene items. We also provide support to those in the local community, such as helping an asylum-seeker visit a doctor or purchase a bike for a refugee to get around. We cannot be more thankful for Redrow East Midlands’ support, which has ensured we reach even more vulnerable people now living in this country.”
Ryan O’Sullivan, Sales Director for Redrow East Midlands, said: “We’re so pleased to be able to donate funds to these two worthy causes in Derbyshire. These charities and organisations operate within the communities that our homeowners live in and we’re proud to support them.
“Both groups – which provide support to a wide range of people – provide such a vital service to our community and we were delighted to have been able to help them. Supporting the most vulnerable of our society is important to us and we’re delighted that our donation has helped these worthy causes reach even more people.”
