Claire Farrand-Preston and her husband, John-Paul Preston, previously lived in a new build house, which they purchased 13 years ago. When they decided it was time for a move, they were faced with the decision of whether to go with an older, Victorian property or to have a completely fresh start with a new-build.
Swayed by the promise of less stress and fewer maintenance issues, Claire and John-Paul fell in love with another new-build, moving to Redrow East Midlands’ Foxbridge Manor, where they purchased a four-bedroom Oxford.
Commenting on their new home, Claire said: “It was a hard decision, deciding whether to buy old or new, as both John-Paul and I had completely different priorities. I wanted an older property with charm and character, while John-Paul wanted a new-build that wouldn’t come with the problems associated with older houses.
“Keen to keep our options open, we visited Foxbridge Manor to look at the show homes and fell in love with The Oxford – it ticked all the boxes for both of us, with the character I wanted plus all the benefits of a new-build.”
Part of our award-winning Heritage Collection, The Oxford features plenty of characterful charm, including bay windows, high ceilings and tall skirting boards which the couple were looking for, whilst also giving them a blank canvas to be tailored to their personal preference.
New research also found that buyers of a new build houses will save an average of £3,100* a year in energy bills which also influenced the Preston’s decision.
Newer properties are generally more energy efficient, better insulated and help homeowners to make savings and do their bit for the environment; and, while people take measures to bring older properties up to today’s standards, it’s not without its difficulties or expense.
Claire continued: “We’re absolutely thrilled with our new home – we’ve been able to add our own stamp to the place while embracing the home’s natural character.
“From the first time we visited the development, we were impressed. All the homes have beautiful, big front gardens which is amazing and feels so different to a lot of other new-builds we looked at – Foxbridge Manor definitely has a lot of character.
“We have no more plans to move again – this is our forever home now”.
