Building from within: Lancashire division celebrates construction team promotions

16th June 2021
Redrow - News - Lancashire Promotions - Shaun Phoenix and Barry Holden

Our Lancashire division has continued its commitment to reward hard work and loyalty with a series of internal promotions.

Shaun Phoenix has been promoted to construction manager after five years as area construction manager, and Barry Holden has risen from project manager to area construction manager.

The moves come after a challenging year within the industry, with both Shaun and Barry proving instrumental in helping the Lancashire division to adopt new safe working practices in light of the Covid pandemic, while continuing to build and provide much-needed new homes.

“But the promotion means even more because of those challenges,” said Shaun. “It’s been a hard year for everyone, a testing and unusual situation in which we have had to adapt to new ways of working.

“We have had to press the reset button and plan things differently, while providing homes on target and to the same standard and quality people expect from Redrow.  What we’ve accomplished is an achievement and to have been promoted now, after that, is great.”

Shaun, 43, from Leigh, has risen within the ranks with us after starting as an apprentice joiner when he left school at 16. He has held positions from site manager, project manager and senior project manager, before becoming area construction manager and now, construction manager.

His new role will see him taking six sites under his control and supervision – The Oaks and The Brook at Taylor’s Chase, Warrington; Sanderling Park in Formby; The Grange at Yew Tree Park in Burscough; Willows Green, Clayton-le-Woods and Worden Gardens in Leyland.

Shaun will liaise closely with construction director Keith Collard, someone who has been a great mentor to him. He will also take an active role in guiding others in his team to take the next step in their careers.

“I was always guided really well and the fact that I’m in this new position echoes my belief that if you work hard and put in the effort at Redrow, it’s a company that will push you and help you go all the way. The rewards are there.”

Barry, 46, from Euxton, near Chorley, has welcomed the chance to get his teeth into a new role having been site manager for eight years and project manager for 16 months.

He will now oversee Oak Leigh Gardens in Whalley, Oldfield Park in Poulton-le-Fylde, and Tabley Green in Fulwood.

The father-of-two says: “There’s a lot more planning in the job now and it is a challenge to look after three sites instead of one but having done the job I know what’s expected of each individual site manager and can help them to meet their targets.”

Three assistant site managers have also taken on new positions as site managers:

  • Adam Brakell, from Fleetwood, is now in charge at Oldfield Park
  • Jason Booth, from Chorley, at Willows Green
  • And Mark Bates, from Leigh, at Worden Gardens

Keith Collard, construction director, said: “Attracting skilled people and investing in them through training and development is embedded into the ethos of Redrow and the latest promotions show that,” he says. “It’s about nurturing talent and getting the best out of people, supporting and taking them to the next level in their careers.”
