Jane and husband Doug were counting their losses on the way back from viewing an older property before stumbling across our Oakwood Fields development.
“And thank goodness we did,” said Jane.
“We absolutely love this home, and we are so happy here. It seemed like we’d taken a wrong turn, but it turned out to absolutely be the right one.”
The couple were looking to relocate from a three-bedroom home in Liverpool to be closer to their daughter, and grandchildren, and to find somewhere to live where Jane, didn’t feel so isolated.
“We’d moved a short time before from Wigan to the outskirts of Liverpool, which I thought would be ideal because it was just half an hour’s drive away from our daughters house,” said Jane.
“But when we first moved there wasn’t a supermarket close by, Doug was in a different job and out every day, and I felt isolated.”
Keen to improve their lives and their home Jane, and Doug, decided to move again.
“We went to look at an older property in Lowton and decided it wasn’t for us,” said Jane.
“But on our way home we saw a sign for a different new development and thought we’d go and have a look. We didn’t like the homes there so drove on hoping to turn around at the bottom of the road and come back, but when we got there, we saw the big red sign for Oakwood Fields, thought we’d have a look there … and the rest, as they say, is history. The team were amazing from the start, welcoming and informative; we looked around and saw on a big screen how things were going to develop. We were made to feel important - and that’s how it went on from then.”
Jane and Doug moved into a four-bedroom detached Stratford home on the 100-property development, which sits on the edge of the semi-rural village between Wigan and Warrington, in August last year.
“We love Lowton because we’ve got all the supermarkets close by, we’re near to our daughter and the grandkids, and there’s a gym five minutes away where I do a dance class and aqua aerobics two or three times a week,” said Jane.
“It’s near to Warrington, for shops like Ikea and M&S on Gemini Retail Park, and the town’s got a great market too. The development is lovely. Redrow have designed it so well with all the trees and shrubbery, it just looks so nice driving in, and there are lots of walks in and around it which are ideal for us and our two-year-old Cavachon Frankie.”
The couple selected the Stratford ‘because we loved the traditional look from the outside, and the fact that it was really modern inside’.
“We really liked the high ceilings and the layout of the home, although for me the best bit of the house is the back,” said Jane.
The kitchen, dining and family room extends across the rear of the home and Jane says: “It’s the best kitchen I’ve ever had! We’ve got grey shaker style units and although we didn’t get to choose them because of build stage, they’re exactly what I would have picked. We’ve got an island that we bought bar stools for, and we’ve created a little snug area with a grey velvet recliner sofa. We are planning to get a dining suite, something not too big because it’s such a light open space I don’t want to make it cluttered. We spend most days in here, and it’s great when the family comes. The other day I was cooking, my daughter was on the sofa and we were chatting, and the grandkids were sitting at the island, writing and drawing. We were all doing different things but doing them together – perfect family life, and just so relaxing.”
The Stratford has a spacious and separate front lounge and a cloakroom completing the accommodation downstairs, while upstairs are four good-sized bedrooms, the main with en-suite, and a family bathroom.
“Doug and I have the main bedroom – which has a huge bay window like the lounge downstairs – and the second double bedroom at the back is the guest room,” said Jane.
“The third bedroom is for the grandchildren and the fourth smaller bedroom at the front is an office for Doug because he mainly works from home now. We bought a beautiful desk for it and bookcases because I’m such a book lover, and it looks really nice. We’re just starting to put all our pictures up, we’ve got some really good artwork, but we wanted to take our time and enjoy doing it and living in the house.”
Although the couple were looking at an older property at first, they’re delighted they ended up with their brand-new home: “This is our forever home. Nothing is ever going to be too much. There’s no maintenance, there’ll be no surprises and we have the 10-year NHBC guarantee. It made sense to buy a new home – to be honest as soon as I went into the show home, I didn’t want to leave it. Our neighbours here are lovely, they are all so friendly, and there’s a real sense of community. It’s the perfect home for us both to retire in.”
Oakwood Fields offers a mix of three and four-bedroom homes, currently available from £350,000. Commuters will appreciate its proximity to the A580 East Lancashire Road, the M6 and M62 Croft interchange, and Newton-le-Willows station with direct trains to Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, and Leeds.
We are creating areas of green space around the development, with footpaths and cycle-paths connecting to open land to the North and East and playing fields to the South.
