A Chorley man is hoping to raise much needed funds for a local hospice when he competes in a 140-mile race.
Dubbed as the gold standard of endurance triathlon racing – Iron Man consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run.
A Bolton-based race that 26-year-old Jason Booth, is aiming to complete in just 15 hours.
“Training is going well. I’m doing some form of training every day, I’ve taken part in marathons, Olympic sprint triathlons and double sprint triathlons to help me prepare,” said Jason, a site manager for Lancashire.
The event, on July 3, will begin with an open swim at Pennington Flash Country Park, then a bike ride leading into Bolton town centre and a run finishing at Victoria Square, Bolton.
Jason, who lives in Chorley, is currently working at our Worden Gardens development in Leyland.
“The team are a great support, I’ve been bringing my bike to work a lot lately,” said Jason.
“Redrow Lancashire has also sponsored me and bought me a new wet suit, so I’m very grateful.”
Not only is Jason setting himself a physical challenge, he is also raising money for St Catherine’s Hospice, in Preston, our Lancashire division’s charity of the year.
“I lost both my grandparents to cancer and the hospice cared for them both. They do such a wonderful job there, this is my way of saying thank you to them.”
Lancashire’s managing director Claire Jarvis added: “We are all behind Jason on this mammoth challenge. We’ve no doubt he will do very well and raise much needed funds for our adopted charity St Catherine’s hospice - good luck Jason!”
