Between those underway and recently completed in the borough, we’ve agreed more than £2.1 million in community benefits, many of which have already been delivered.
As a result of planning agreements for the completed Lucas Green development and forthcoming Sycamore Manor venture in Whittle-le-Woods, as well as the completed The Hedgerows site and ongoing Willows Green and Chestnut Green developments in nearby Clayton-le-Woods, we pledged funds for new infrastructure, open space improvements and affordable homes.
Claire Jarvis, managing director for the Buckshaw Village-based Lancashire division, said: “New homes developments bring an opportunity to fuel the local economy, providing construction jobs and stimulating other employment within the supply chain. In addition, they bring new residents to the area who will spend money with local businesses. It is estimated these five developments, which total 389 homes, have supported more than 900 new jobs in house building and within the supply chain.*
“As a housebuilder we also make considerable contributions to local areas through section 106 agreements, established during the planning process, and the community infrastructure levy (CIL), which provide a range of benefits to those living in surrounding neighbourhoods.”
As a result of these five developments alone, contributions within Chorley include £126,000 towards green open space improvement and facilities like play areas and sports pitches, and £1.4 million of funding towards local infrastructure through CIL contributions. A total of £709k for off-site affordable housing has also been provided as a result of the two Clayton-le-Woods developments, while 100 new affordable homes are being built by us on site – the vast majority of those already delivered.
Claire added: “We have a strong track record in the Chorley area for providing high quality homes to meet local demand. Not only that, the benefits of building new homes in local communities goes far beyond those who move into our properties.
“Our goal is to provide a better way to live, not just for our homeowners, but for others in the area. We create new green spaces and provide green routes through our developments to ensure they are well connected to the neighbouring areas and accessible for the wider community.
“As a homebuilder, we create places where communities can come together to meet and socialise, but it is the people that really create a thriving community and we’ve enjoyed watching strong bonds form between new neighbours on each of our established Chorley developments.”

In addition to our statutory community commitments, we recently awarded four £500 voluntary grants to community groups in the local area. These included a local primary school, a new sports club, a befriending scheme and a project where digital devices which will be distributed to children and families in need.
