After creating a fashion boutique which was a Preston favourite for more than three decades, Christine and husband Ronnie know a thing or two about style.
So when they were looking for a brand new home, the retired couple knew they’d found great designs at our Tabley Green in Fulwood – and the four-bedroom detached Henley was the perfect fit for them.
“We wanted a new build house because we wanted low maintenance and, at our age, we didn’t want anything we’d have to start work on,” says Christine, 73, who used to own Femina in Plungington.
“We’d looked at a lot of different housebuilders over the last 18 months, but the minute we came onto the Redrow development we knew this was it. The houses were built so well, solidly and traditionally – and Ronnie re-built our last home, a barn conversion, so he knows a thing or two – and they were laid out so beautifully.”
Christine and Ronnie, 75, moved into Tabley Green from the village of Woodplumpton, after deciding to replace a more rural home for a central one.
Looking ahead, they wanted to be on a bus route for when they were no longer able to drive, but they’ve already noticed other benefits: “It used to take us 25 minutes to get into the town centre – nowadays we can do it in 10.”
Downstairs their Henley home has a large open plan kitchen, dining and family area that spans the width of the house at the rear, a separate lounge and a cloakroom and utility, as well as an integral double garage.
Upstairs there are four double bedrooms, two with en-suite, and a family bathroom.
“It’s beautiful,” says Christine. “I love the open plan kitchen and dining room at the back and all the light it lets in – we live in the back now, although the lounge I imagine will be nice and cosy in the winter.”
Before completing on their home, Christine and Ronnie had sold their previous home to a cash buyer but had been told by their solicitors it would take more than four weeks to set the seal on their own deal. But the pair switched to our recommended legal team, O’Donnell Solicitors in Oldham, who exchanged within six days and completed in three weeks of their reservation – which not only meant a swift move, it was done within days of the stamp duty holiday ending and saved them thousands of pounds.
“I put that towards new dining room furniture and a few other things,” says Christine, who has a daughter Tina, son-in-law Andrew who helped the couple move plus two grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel.
The couple also gave full marks to the sales team at Tabley Green who were ‘amazing.’
Tabley Green is four miles from Preston with all that a city centre offers, yet close to farmland, creating a semi-rural feel and giving owners plenty of fresh air and green space.
There are local stores as well as larger shops in Fulwood, which also has lots of restaurants, cafes and pubs; and families can rely on a selection of schools nearby as well as a strong sense of community within the development.
For commuters, the M6 and M55 are within easy access, and Preston Station offers mainline train services to London in a little over two hours.
Homes at Tabley Green currently start from £259,995 for a three-bed detached Warwick, going up to £454,995 for a four-bed detached Henley. To find out more visit www.redrow.co.uk/tableygreen or call 01772 507449.
