An Oldham youth centre has been boosted by a donation from Redrow towards a state of the art sensory space.
Part of the recently extended Mahdlo Youth Zone, the sensory area provides an opportunity for young people with more severe needs to participate and access activities.
The new space, which opened last year, also includes a new performing arts hub and nature-based outdoor area - improving Mahdlo’s offering for young people with a disability or additional needs.
The £1,000 donation was provided though our Oldham Community Fund, which has shared a total of £5,000 between good causes that help people and communities in the Oldham area.
The money has been used to purchase a new laptop and TV.
Claire Crossfield, development manager for Mahdlo Oldham Youth Zone, said: “We really appreciate this donation as it helps to bring our sensory room into the 21st century, creating an interactive and sensory space that is accessible to our most vulnerable members”.
Sian Pitt, sales director for the Lancashire division, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to provide support to organisations such as Madhlo that offer such a wonderful service to the young people of Oldham. The new sensory area provides exciting opportunities for young people with additional needs and we’re delighted to have been able to fund some of the new equipment.”
Mahdlo, based in Egerton Street, is a registered charity and state-of-the-art Youth Zone for 8-19 year olds (up to 25 for young people with a disability).
It is usually open seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year, and offers an exciting range of activities and opportunities that all young people from across Oldham can access for just 50p as a member.
