We’re hosting an event to support those looking to move home by launching our new EPC tool to highlight the cost effectiveness of moving to a new-build property.
Over the weekend of 15th and 16th October, we’re is debuting our EPC tool that will allow prospective customers to educate themselves on the costs associated with Energy Performance Certificate ratings, and how the Government’s sustainability and environmental targets will impact them as homeowners.
The current cost-of-living crisis brings the need for this transparency into sharper focus, with research conducted by Redrow showing that 83% of homeowners are expressing concern about rising energy bills.
Additionally, we recently commissioned a sustainability consultant to conduct a technical comparison between the expected EPC results of a traditional house built in the 1930s (and subsequently renovated) and a modern Redrow home.
The calculated running costs of the older property equate to £1,409 a year, with the Redrow home coming out under half of that at £597, based on the use of gas.
Newer homes come with many energy-efficient amenities built in – such as proper insulation and double-glazed windows – and are also covered by a 10-year warranty from the National House Building Council.
With only a fifth of those polled considering the results of the EPC an important factor when they are looking to buy a property, there is an onus on the housebuilding industry to continue to educate and inform the public as to the comparative credentials of different types of properties.
James Holmear, Group Sales Director Redrow, said: “Whether you’re taking the first step or downsizing later in life, moving house is an incredibly exciting opportunity. However, whilst customers are aware of the logistical and financial implications of moving home, our analysis shows that people can be a little in the dark when it comes to the energy efficiency of their homes. As a business we are taking responsibility to help educate and inform homeowners and future buyers, and this weekend event is intended to represent a helping hand on that journey.
“Our research shows that buying new can represent a better option for people who want to save on their running costs, reduce the amount of carbon they are responsible for and avoid the upheaval involved in extensive retrofitting work.
“For those considering making their next move, we invite you to visit your local Redrow community where we’re confident you’ll fall for our homes that offer the best of both worlds – beautifully crafted with high levels of energy-efficiency built-in – for a new way of living.”
