Redrow leads the way for workplace diversity and inclusion

9th December 2022
Redrow - News - Redrow leads the way for workplace diversity and inclusion

Redrow has gained double recognition for its commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion.

November 2022 saw Redrow included in the FT’s annual listing for Diversity Leaders 2023; the fourth annual ranking to be compiled by the FT and Statista and based on employee perception.

Earlier in the month were were highly commended at the Construction News Workforce Awards in the category of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year.

Our vision is ‘To build a culture that is inclusive to all, actively values difference and ensures everyone is treated fairly.’ Its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) policy was published in December 2020. The company has a group of more than 80 representatives within the business, who act as points of contact, feedback ideas and drive the vision.

Karen Jones, HR director for Redrow, said: “To be included as one of the FT’s Diversity Leaders for 2023 is reflective of our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels included and free to be themselves. It’s great recognition for our colleagues who have sought to embrace diversity in all aspects of the business; creating an environment where employees can fulfil their potential.”

Since 2020 we have embraced a number of new initiatives, one of which was a thought-provoking workshop.

Delivered to over 700 employees, including our Executive Board members and leadership teams, the workshops received commendation at the Construction News Workforce Awards.

An inspiring element of these interactive sessions was a short film, using actors, to portray life on a fictional building site. Site manager ‘Harry’ is shown being filmed for an imaginary docuseries and, while welcoming forklift driver ‘Rod’ to site, insults just about every sector of society. The actors playing Harry and Rod then join the discussion, in character, with participants invited to challenge their behaviour and attitudes.

Karen added: “While uncomfortable to watch, the video created an engaging workshop and a platform to discuss potential real-life issues.  The sessions and other ongoing initiatives, including our eLearning modules, Toolbox Talks and quarterly focus topics, have raised the awareness and understanding of ED&I within the business.

“In our most recent employee survey; 91% believed that Redrow is committed to continuously promoting a culture of ED&I, up from 87% last year, while 93% feel they can be themselves at work, which is so positive and brings so many benefits including diversity of thought, creativity and innovation within the team.”
