Our South Midlands division, which is currently building at Alconbury Weald on Bardolph Way, has shown its support for the history of the local area by donating £500 to the Great Paxton History Society.
Since building started at the development, and as part of our commitment to creating thriving communities, we’ve launched a number of initiatives to support local residents. This includes an annual community fund, where groups can apply for funding for their projects, but also regular donations to local charities.
The donation will help the village of Great Paxton to honour the Second World War Lancaster crew, which crashed near Great Paxton in 1944.
Graham James, member of the Great Paxton History Society, near Huntingdon, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Redrow South Midlands for this generous donation. The granite memorial will serve as a visual and lasting reminder to honour the lives lost in 1944 in our village, and to commemorate the sacrifices made by all during the Second World War.”
Suzanne Irons, Sales Director for South Midlands, said: “As members of the Huntingdon community, we are keen to support local community groups that have a meaningful impact on their members.
“The Great Paxton History Society is a local organisation which uncovers local historical events and pays tribute to those who have made prominent contributions and deserve to be commemorated. We are immensely proud to be supporting the Great Paxton History Society through our community fund, with the unveiling of this most recent monument.
“We are all forever indebted to those who served in the First and Second World Wars so we could live the lives we do today. We are pleased to be contributing towards this memorial, which serves as a meaningful site for many generations, past and present.”
