Our South Midlands division, which is currently building new homes at Caddington Woods, in Chaul End, has donated £1,350 to foodbanks across the region, including Luton Foodbank, to support local families experiencing financial difficulties.
Since building started at the development, and as part our commitment to create thriving communities, we’ve launched a number of initiatives to support local residents. This includes an annual community fund, where groups can apply for funding for their projects, but also regular donations to local charities.
Currently in the UK, more than 14 million people are living in poverty – including 4.5 million children. The Trussell Trust, a leading charity who support a nationwide network of foodbanks, has distributed 2.5 million emergency food parcels between April 2020 and March 2021, a 33% increase on the previous year.
Dharmi Patel, Project Administrator at Luton Foodbank, said: “Demand for emergency food parcels has been on the rise across the UK since the start of the pandemic. As COVID-19 continues to be a threat, so too does the financial pressures and increased uncertainty many of our community are facing. This has been a very welcome and much needed donation from the team at Redrow and will directly help those in need in our community.”
Suzanne Irons, Sales Director at for the South Midlands, said: “As members of the Luton community, we are keen to support the local people, especially during this difficult time where food banks have seen a huge surge in demand for food parcels.
“Many people have faced significant hardship over the last year, due to ill-health, redundancy, or changes in their personal lives, which mean they need to seek support.
“We are delighted to support Luton Foodbank, who continue to provide a vital service for the people of Luton. We are committed to creating thriving communities and supporting local residents. We’d like to encourage those who are able to reach out to their local foodbank and see if they can help, in any way they can.”
