We are currently building at Leestone Park on Heath Road, and we invited children from Leedon Lower School to take part in an autumn themed nature class – to learn more about how the natural world is preparing for winter.
The interactive class saw the pupils enjoy a special lesson from the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust in the gardens of the show homes at Leestone Park.
The session included interactive games and visual aids which helped to highlight how nature transitions from summer to autumn, and the impact this has on local wildlife. As part of the class, children enjoyed a scavenger hunt around the show home’s gardens to collect items to later inspect more closely using magnifying glasses and cameras.
Suzanne Irons, Sales Director for our South Midlands division, said: “Helping to encourage curiosity among the younger generation on the importance of nature and how we can all better look after it, is so important for the future of the planet. Which is why we’ve invited local children to come and take part in an educational autumn class, to better understand our changing seasons and the impact this has on our local wildlife.
“We enjoyed welcoming the children and learning more about the nature in our Leestone Park back gardens with the younger generation.”
Richard Benson, Headteacher, said: “Here at Leedon Lower School, we love to encourage our pupils to learn more about how to better look after the world around them. We all had a great day taking part in the autumn nature class – it was an interesting session and the children enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you to Redrow South Midlands for inviting us to take part.”
Our biodiversity strategy, which was created in partnership with The Wildlife Trust, seeks to put the natural environment at the heart of our developments and the lives of the people who live on them – which includes helping bees settle into newly built environments.
The strategy includes a net gain approach to biodiversity; ensuring every development has green space or landscaped communal areas where wildlife can flourish. Developments may feature green routes for walking and cycling, newly created orchards or meadows, and wetland areas like ponds and swales.
We are committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and we’ve set ambitious interim targets for both our direct and indirect emissions to help limit global warming to 1.5°C.
Leestone Park offers the ideal balance of rural living with great connections to surrounding towns. The centre of Leighton Buzzard is just a mile and a half away from the development, and the handy train station means you can travel to Milton Keynes in less than fifteen minutes. In due course, there are also plans for a community centre to be built on the development, as well as an orchard and plenty of open spaces – making the location perfect for families.
