Year six pupils from Archbishop Rowan Williams Church in Wales Primary School in Caldicot are heading off on an adventure to the Isle of Wight.
The class of 26 will be staying at the UK Sailing Academy in Cowes where they will be given the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and broaden their horizons using water sports and the great outdoors.
11 year-old Ivy Phillips and her class have been leading the fundraising efforts. Ivy said: “We think this will be an amazing trip because we all want to grow our independence and spend some quality time playing and learning with our friends before we head off to comprehensive school. This will help us to develop our independence and confidence but the trip isn’t cheap so we’ve been busy fundraising. We are all really grateful to Redrow their donation.”
Class teacher Katie Clement said: “The benefits of participation in sailing and water sports are multiple and proven, helping to build confidence, teamwork and resilience. It will be a great experience for the children as they prepare for the next chapter in their education.”
Andrew Williams, Area Sales Manager for Redrow added: “Covid-19 meant that so many children didn’t have the opportunity to take part in school visits and trips during the pandemic so adventures like this to the Isle of Wight are more important than ever hence our support. We hope that Ivy and her classmates have a great time.”
