Our Southern Counties division has completed the work on the roundabout at Penlands Green in Haywards Heath. On Friday 11th September, all local roads and pedestrian routes reopened at 4pm that afternoon.
The delivery of the roundabout was a condition attached to the planning permission granted to Redrow for the construction of 210 new homes at Penlands Green, and will ensure the local transport infrastructure suitably supports the area’s growing population. The roundabout works will enhance local road safety, with road users having greater visibility of other vehicles and signage, and delivers new and improved pedestrian footways.
The roundabout works, which commenced on Monday 22nd June 2020, completed within the scheduled 12 weeks on Friday afternoon. The junction at Balcombe Road and Hanlye Lane and the junction of Hanlye Lane and Borde Hill, both reopened thereafter at 4pm with our contractors fully clear.
Mims Davies MP, member of parliament for Mid Sussex, and Cllr Pete Bradbury, joined our site team at Penlands Green for a formal unveiling of the new roundabout.

Councillor Pete Bradbury, comments: “I’m very pleased that this new junction is now open. It’s been fully funded by Redrow at no cost to the public purse. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone for their patience through what was always going to be a period of major disruption.”
Mims Davies MP, comments: “I am very pleased this roundabout project will finally complete later this week, allowing nearby residents and local businesses to travel more easily into Haywards Heath and to visit and enjoy the various businesses and restaurants in the Borde Hill area. This has been a truly challenging closure for many, with full diversion routes in place much longer than originally hoped. Redrow, and therefore locals, were impacted by the need for a last minute change in their contractor, and I thank them for keeping the project focused on a safe build, delivered as soon as possible. Having recently visited the stunning Borde Hill Gardens, I was delighted to hear that their visitor numbers were positive and I am hopeful that now this roundabout is open, patronage of the businesses on this estate will further bounce back as we all continue the recovery journey from the impact of Covid-19.”
