Our Elm Green development in Waterlooville, Hampshire, has donated furniture from its show home to the charity. The developer has helped further the charity’s mission of furnishing the bare properties offered to families who are living in poverty, particularly those who have fled domestic abuse. With research showing that 98% of social housing tenancies are unfurnished, this contribution will help create safe, comfortable homes for many women and children in their time of need.
Working with Furnishing Futures enables Elm Green to not only help vulnerable people, but also contribute to the circular economy. The benefits of this collaboration, therefore, extend to the environment too, with items from the show home able to be recycled and reused. Items of furniture donated by us include beds, lamps, an armchair, wardrobes, and a chest of drawers, alongside home furnishings such as vases and picture frames.
Emily McKinnell, Area Sales Manager at Redrow Southern Counties, commented: “We are really pleased to have worked with Furnishing Futures, donating show home furniture from our Elm Green development. It is such an impactful initiative and, as a responsible developer, we are always looking for ways to give back to society and make a positive impact. We hope we can work with the Furnishing Futures team again in the future to help them continue their important work.”
This initiative, supporting at-risk families through reducing furniture poverty while contributing to the green economy, is thoroughly in keeping with our mission to be a socially conscious and sustainable business. The developer’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy outlines their commitment to cultivating environments that uphold these values and build a culture that welcomes all with fair treatment.
Emily Wheeler, Founder of Furnishing Futures, commented: “At Furnishing Futures, we know just how interlinked our homes are with our mental health and wellbeing. The women and children we help are going through a traumatic period in their lives, so the more we can do to make their immediate surroundings more comfortable, the better. Collaboration with companies like Redrow are vital to achieving our goal to bring the healing power of the home to as many as possible and end furniture poverty.”
Furnishing Futures’ vision is to create a future where furniture poverty ceases to exist, and no useable furniture ends up in landfill, whilst also creating healing homes for women and children fleeing domestic abuse or experiencing furniture poverty, by using good quality donated furnishings.
