Our Southern Counties division has secured planning consent to build 100 new homes on the edge of the Old Basing Conservation Area in Basingstoke.
The 11.6-acre site, known as Land at Swing Swang Lane, has been acquired from Hampshire County Council (HCC) and is allocated within the Basingstoke and Deane Adopted Local Plan.
The newly secured consent from Basingstoke and Dean Borough Council gives the green light for the land to be transformed into Cromwell Court, a selection of beautifully designed two- to four-bedroom family homes from our award-winning Heritage Collection. 40% of the homes provided would be affordable, with tenure split between shared ownership and affordable rent.
Alongside the new homes, we are delivering a footpath improvement to link the development to the village of Old Basing as well as over 15,000 sq. m. of green open space, in the form of a sports area, informal play area and a Site of Nature Conservation Interest.
The new community will be located next to the Hampshire Clinic on the fringe of the picturesque village of Old Basing, and in walking distance from Basingstoke town centre filled with a variety of shops and restaurants. Residents will benefit from Basingstoke’s connectivity, with trains to Southampton taking as little as 27-minutes, London Waterloo from 47-minutes and Birmingham from one hour and 30-minutes.
This site represents the team’s fourth acquisition in Hampshire and builds further on the communities already being delivered at Hop Field Place in Alton, which is currently in its third and final phase, as well as Beckets Rise in Basingstoke, which has now sold out. Most recently in November 2020, we secured consent to deliver 175 homes in Liphook, after formally acquiring the site in 2019. Basingstoke is also home to the division’s HQ, located along Rankine Road.
Craige Burden, Head of Planning for Southern Counties, comments: We’re delighted to have secured planning consent in our heartland of Basingstoke where our division is based. Hampshire is an idyllic county benefitting from heaps of countryside to explore, great transport links and high-quality schools.
“Our proposals will deliver 100 high-quality apartments and houses, set within carefully planned green open spaces and in keeping with the traditional and charming character of the Old Basing Conservation Area. We’re very excited to be able to bring more of our award-winning homes and communities to this beautiful part of the county.”
