External doors
Damage
Your external doors have been supplied by a national company, fitted by qualified carpenters and often hand painted by our experienced painters.
Occasionally damage can occur when we are putting the finishing touches to your home. Should you notice any damage to your external doors or their fittings (known as the door furniture and including handles, locks and other fixtures), this should have been raised during your Home Preview or at your Courtesy Check.
Doors may become marked during everyday life and, of course, they will weather over time. Details of the paint colour can be found in your Redrow Homefile and you should be able to purchase the paint from a number of hardware retailers.
Ease or adjust
As your home naturally dries out and settles, your external doors may need easing and adjusting to make them operational.
We recommend that you use a 3 in 1 lubricant oil and apply it to the closing mechanism; lift the handle up and down to allow it to soak in. Clean the frame and hinges with a damp cloth to remove any grit and dirt. Then apply the lubricant to a clean cloth and wipe over the hinges.
If you continue to experience issues then one of our Maintenance Technicians will be able to attend to make any necessary adjustments.

If external door frames become marked during everyday life you should be able to wipe them clean with a damp cloth, which we recommend doing regularly as part of home owner maintenance.
Handles / locks / hinges
Your door handles, locks and hinges should have been checked when you first moved in. Any damage should have been raised during your Home Preview or at your Courtesy Check.
We recommend carrying out regular maintenance of your doors to ensure that they open and close effectively. Use a damp cloth to clean the inside of the frame and opening mechanisms to remove any grit or dirt. Applying a 3 in 1 lubricant oil to the locking system and on the hinges with a clean cloth should help.
If you still experience issues then let us know and we will organise for a Maintenance Technician or our door specialist to attend.

Slight variations in paint finishes are normal and you must be able to see the damage or paint issues when standing at least 2m from the door in natural daylight.
Sealant
Your front and any side / back doors will be sealed as part of the fitting to ensure that they are water tight.
The sealant, otherwise known as mastic, may loosen or shrink as your home naturally dries out and settles. This can be dealt with during routine home owner maintenance and is not classed as a defect.
Glazing
Glass should be checked in daylight from a minimum distance of 2m (3m for toughened, laminated or coated glass).
Certain minor imperfections are acceptable provided they are not obtrusive or bunched, these include bubbles or blisters, hairlines or blobs, minute particles, fine scratches not more than 25mm long.
Any concerns with glazing should have been raised during your Home Preview or at your Courtesy Check.
Door bell
Your doorbell is battery operated. If it stops working you may simply need to replace the battery.
