Beeping

The smoke and heat detectors in your home are powered by mains electricity supply with a 9 volt battery back-up to ensure alarms still work in the event of a power cut.

You need to regularly check and replace the batteries. Your smoke alarms will make a constant beeping sound when the batteries are running low and need changing. Once the battery is replaced with a new one, the beeping will stop.

We recommend that you check the operation of smoke and heat alarms at least once a month. They are fitted with a test button and the manufacturers instructions will explain this in detail.

If you have replaced the batteries and the alarm(s) are still not working, check your consumer unit (fuse box) to ensure the isolation point is switched to the 'on' position. The smoke detector mains must be switched to the 'on' position at all times for your safety.
