Stylish and Simple Storage Solutions

Finding a place for everything and keeping everything in its place isn’t easy, particularly when you first move into a new home, or for those with busy lives or children.

Over the course of our lives we accumulate lots of “things”, some are sentimental, some practical, some we want to proudly display and others we prefer to hide away.

Whether you’ve just moved and need a new home for your belongings or want to make more space in your existing home, our in-house interior design team share their top tips for organising your kitchen, bathrooms and children’s rooms with simple (and stylish) storage solutions.

Bedroom storage ideas

WALK IN WARDROBES

For many, walk-in wardrobes are the epitome of bedroom luxury. A dedicated space to store all your clothes with enough room to try them on. Plus, when things get a little messy, you have the ability to close the door!

Walk-in wardrobes come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes as a dedicated room off the bedroom or as a ‘walk through’ between the main bedroom and en-suite bathroom. As they become more popular, we’ve started adapting our homes to include them where we can. For example, our Lifestyle homes, which all have en-suites, have a master suite inclusive of an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe.

FITTED WARDROBES

Walk-in wardrobes are not always practical as not every room or home will have the space. If you’re looking for a stylish way to solve your storage problems, look no further than fitted wardrobes.

Designed to add to the aesthetic of the room and fully built-in, they’re the perfect solution. Having fitted wardrobes over free standing ones gives your bedroom more sense of space. They’re also very flexible and fit to suit you. For example, some even come with floor to ceiling mirrors which saves floor and wall space.

Children’s bedroom storage

Finding a home for a menagerie of soft toys, could be easier than you think. A laundry basket or bag could be the perfect hiding place, or you could repurpose a fabric hanging wardrobe organiser. A bookcase doesn’t have to just store books – it could be where games, dolls and other toys are kept too. The hugely popular IKEA BILLY bookcase range offers a modern customisable solution in a range of colours and sizes.

Kitchen storage ideas

Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy, while having equipment and ingredients on hand to rustle up a quick meal, is a balancing act. Kitchens in new Redrow homes are designed to be practical and stylish, with lots of storage.

Kitchen islands, either included as standard, or as an optional upgrade in My Redrow, can provide additional storage space. There’s even the option to add an in-built wine cooler in selected designs.

Alysha Alli, Redrow’s head interior designer, explains: “We’ve introduced under hob drawers, which are great for storing utensils, pans or plates. And don’t forget to utilise your cupboard doors. There are lots of ingenious items available to make the most of your storage space by adding ‘extra’ shelves or hanging wire racks inside the doors.”

Storage jars, available in most homeware shops and supermarkets, can be used to make a worktop feature of pasta, cereal and other foods.”

Bathroom storage ideas

Tired of tripping over toiletries every time you step into the shower? Invest in a shower caddy - there are over door options and freestanding ones that could be positioned alongside the bath.

Alysha says: “We love the trend for circular frame shelves, a great way to showcase designer bottles of creams and lotions. Opt for matte black frames or a dulled metallic finish for a luxurious addition, both of which are key trends. Alternatively, for a more subtle look you could use a bathroom storage box to keep things out of sight. All of these items work well in a bathroom, en suite or smaller spaces, like a downstairs cloakroom”

Hallway storage ideas

We know how busy modern life can make us, especially if you’re in a growing family. That’s why clever and stylish storage isn't limited to the bedroom. In most of our new homes, you’ll find plenty of space to store your things.

Downstairs, most homes have a hallway cupboard, making it easy for you to store your coats and brollies. What is really useful though, is a utility room. You’ll notice a number of homes in the Heritage Collection have dedicated utility areas off the kitchen. These are perfect to keep the washing and drying out of sight or when prepping for a party when you want to keep the mess out of sight.
