Feature walls instantly draw the eye and can create interest and depth in any room. If you’re a fan of colour then it can be a great place to make a bold statement, but even if you prefer a more neutral palette, you can still make a big impact with a harmonising shade or a richly textured wallpaper, as above.
On trend paint colours range from natural to dark blue and deep teal, while softer choices like heather and taupe work beautifully in a bedroom. For wallpaper, shimmering metallic effects are big news, while natural and woven textures are also popular. And while paint or wallpaper provide a beautiful backdrop, you can complete your feature wall with equally striking artwork, shelving, mirrors, and furniture.
There’s plenty of design inspiration in our many Show Homes, and we’ve handpicked some of our favourite feature walls here, with advice on how you can recreate the look in your own home.
THE LOUNGE
In this elegant lounge our designers have created a ‘grown-up’ room with beautifully-textured feature wallpaper from Romo’s Villa Nova range. For contrast we’ve added an almost black wenge wood sideboard and console table. Black framed abstract artwork, featuring one of this year’s must-have colours - burnt orange - and a metallic framed circular mirror are fabulous additions to this show-stopping feature wall.
This lounge feature wall is also a timeless choice. The Metallic Pewter wallpaper is by Osborne & Little from the Zingrina Range and brings real warmth and depth to this stylish space.
FAMILY ROOMS
For a relaxed family room we love this wall painted in Dulux Heritage Terra Ombra. It perfectly enhances the natural fabrics in the room and blends beautifully with the dusky heather and grey accent colours in the tartan cushions.
To complete this look arrange framed artwork, family photos and favourite quotes in an informal gallery.
We’ve gone for a bold choice on two walls in this stylish snug, painted Indigo, from the Dulux Heritage range. The room enjoys plenty of natural light thanks to the patio doors so the deep blue shade works well. To capture this look add a long picture shelf and adorn with greenery and a gallery of framed family photos and prints.
KITCHEN/DINING
In this bright open-plan kitchen and dining area, our designers have cleverly used a corresponding feature wall at either end of the room in Dulux Waxed Khaki. This ties the space together and provides a chic backdrop to the Symphony shaker style kitchen in Platinum. The feature paint colour is further enhanced by natural greenery in the room, bringing the freshness of the outdoors in.
A great tip from our designers is to paint your shelves the same colour as your feature wall.
BEDROOMS
In this beautiful bedroom we’ve opted for a painted feature wall in a deep, dark shade of teal by Dulux. It combines perfectly with the grey textured linen headboard, while the throw and cushions subtly pick out both colours.
Another top tip from our designers is to paint your feature wall a similar tone to your curtains to bring your room together perfectly, like the deep coral shade we’ve used in this elegant master bedroom.
For a teenage boys rooms we’re big fans of this casual check print wallpaper. It’s right on-trend when combined with industrial elements like these retro beside lights, illuminated sign and album cover artwork. The faux saddle-leather headboard completes this funky feature wall.
Our fourth and final bedroom look boasts wallpaper from Cole & Sons’ iconic Whimsical range. It’s an enchanting woodland print in blush pink, which is a wonderful choice for girls of any age. It’s a backdrop that will grow with them and, while it looks lovely in a young girl’s room, it still looks great for a teenager, when paired with this classic style chrome headboard, framed pictures and white bedsides.
