When they got pipped at the post at our development near their old house in Maghull, Liverpool, Michael and Jan feared they’d never find their perfect new home.
But thanks to our caring sales teams, the retired Liverpool couple not only found their ideal property at The Grange at Yew Tree Park in Burscough – but an equally great place to live too.
Michael and Jan bought a four-bedroom detached Oxford at the semi-rural development.
“We love the house, and we love the village too,” says Jan. “And the neighbours have really made it special. Everybody waves, they stop and chat, and everyone is just so welcoming. And we owe it all to Redrow who helped us every step of the way.
“When we lost out on the first home the sales team kept in touch, we think they realised how disappointed we were. But they have been with us throughout – they’ve been amazing.”
Michael, 62, a former Arriva bus engineer, and Jan, 64, who was a midwife, retired together in March 2019 having decided, between the choice of new home and retirement, to go for the latter.
“We have children who live abroad,” explains Michael, “and we decided we’d travel too. We bought a motorhome and went abroad, and everything was fine for the first 12 months – until Covid hit!”
While on a trip out, Jan saw our new homes being built in Formby and discovered they were still being built in Maghull too at Dover Meadows.
The appeal of a new build, so everything was new and fresh, really stood out to Jan and so the couple decided to take the plunge.
But after missing out in Maghull all wasn’t lost. The sales team – Julie at Sanderling Park and Yvonne and Will at The Grange at Yew Tree Park – kept in touch and, after persuading them to look at our Burscough homes, had them sold.
The couple used our Help to Sell through which our estate agent partners take care to market and sell a customer’s current property. They arrange to have it appraised by the estate agent partner and agree a fair valuation and marketing plan to encourage a quick sale. We even contribute to fees!
“It made it so much easier and more straightforward – and we even managed to move during the Stamp Duty holiday which was an added bonus,” adds Michael.
The couple swapped their old three-bedroom home for the four-bedroom Oxford and they have never looked back: “We love having four big bedrooms and being able to live in the big kitchen and dining room at the back of the house, although the separate living room is lovely and cosy too,” adds Jan.
“People ask us why we’ve not downsized, but we are very family orientated. If our children and grandchildren ever come to stay there’s room for them all. We feel that this house was meant for us and the sales team who kept in touch, and who encouraged us, helped us all the way. This is the perfect house to retire in – now we’ve got the best of both worlds.”
The Grange at Yew Tree Park in Burscough is within easy reach of Preston, Liverpool, Southport and Manchester by train, and lies south of the main A59 Liverpool to Preston Road giving superb commuter access. Locally there is a wide choice of leisure and shopping facilities.
