The couple moved into our Kings Moat Garden Village development in December last year and are celebrating after recently being unveiled as our 150th customer at the site.
“We would like another child one day and this is a lovely area to bring up a family,” says Eva, a 33-year-old doctor.
“Chester is a fantastic little city with lots of things to do and lovely places to eat. There are so many amenities within walking distance of where we are, and places to spend weekends like The Ice Cream Farm and Chester Zoo, Blue Planet Aquarium and Cheshire Oaks. And Kings Moat Garden Village has got a wonderful community feel already.”
But their brand-new detached four-bedroom Balmoral home there isn’t just the perfect place to grow their family – it’s ideal for growing a host of fruit and vegetables that they can all enjoy too.
“I call it our kitchen garden, we plan to grow lots of vegetables and fruit, like raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and grapes,” said Eva.
“We did it in our old home – I still have a freezer full of carrots and parsnips – and it’s a lovely way to spend time with Ella and if you want to cook something that’s fresh and without pesticides.”
Eva and 34 year-old Robin, a project manager in the construction industry, were eager to upgrade from a three-bedroom detached home in Liverpool which they’d bought from new seven years before, so they’d be ready for another child and to be closer to Robin’s parents in North West Wales.
The couple searched new-build homes across the North West before settling on our Garden Village off Wrexham Road.
“We wanted to buy new, somewhere we could just move into, unpack a couple of boxes, and continue life as normal,” said Eva.
“We chose Redrow because of their reputation and because, after visiting a lot of different builders’ developments, we liked the overall aesthetic of Redrow’s homes, the traditional looking exterior and the modern open plan layouts inside; and the quality and finish just stood out.”
The couple opted for the Balmoral, a commanding property with a stunning porched entrance. It has a large kitchen and dining area at the rear of the property with wide patio doors to let the light flood in, a separate lounge which runs the length of the home on one side, and a study and downstairs cloakroom and utility to offer practicality.
Four good-sized bedrooms provide lots of living space upstairs, with the added luxury of an en-suite to both the main bedroom and bedroom two, and a family bathroom.
“We loved the layout, with the large sitting room and the double doors into the kitchen which we can have closed if we don’t want people to see our messy kitchen, or open to create one big living space,” said Eva.
“I like that I can be in the kitchen cooking and still be able to watch Ella playing on the carpet in the lounge. Robin has the study which he uses as his office as he works from home, but it could easily be a guest room, another sitting room, or a playroom.”
Robin and Eva have the main bedroom, which benefits from a bay window, and the second bedroom is a guest bedroom.
“I’m originally from Slovakia and so my parents come to see us and stay, and it’s nice that they can have their own space and a bit of privacy,” said Eva.
“Ella has the third bedroom and bedroom four will be for a second child – once we’re brave enough!”
The couple chose a host of upgrades from our My Redrow online tool, including fitted wardrobes in bedrooms one and two, flooring and carpets, extra tiling in the bathrooms and electrical sockets, and a WiFi thermostat and burglar alarm.
“We also chose upgrades for the kitchen like silestone worktops, an induction hob and combi-microwave oven, and a Quooker hot tap which is my favourite thing. It’s so much better having all the work done before you move in,” said Eva.
“It was a straight-forward move and Redrow was really helpful throughout; and the aftersales service has been really good too – they haven’t just forgotten us now they’ve got us here!”
The family have already found a favourite in a nearby deli which they go to for brunch:
“And there’s also a bakery, a fishmonger’s and a butcher’s, a Co-op, and a Post Office there which is great having all those amenities close by, and there’s a playground we can go to on the way back. As the garden village develops, there will also be a playground just in front of our home, more green spaces, a shopping area, and a school at some point. We wanted to live somewhere we could walk to places and not have to always go in the car, so it’s ideal for us. We really love it.”
