Mark Hitchen, site manager at our Cranberry Gardens development, manages one of the club’s teams.
He explained: “We have defibrillators on all of our developments for use by staff, contractors, visitors and the wider community in the event of a medical emergency and I initially asked if there was one from a site that was closing that could be donated to the club."
“Instead we received £1,200 to purchase a brand new defibrillator that can be taken to training sessions and matches. It could make a real difference in the event of someone having a cardiac arrest.”
When combined with effective CPR within a few minutes of the incident, the use of a defibrillator increases the potential survivability of an out of hospital cardiac arrest from just 5% to 75%.
We have more than 100 defibrillators across our live developments and regional offices in England and Wales and have created an eLearning module about the use of the defibrillators, available to all staff.
In some areas we have partnered with Hand on Heart to provide defibrillators in schools. Support from our voluntary community funds attached to our housing developments across the North West has also helped provide defibrillators including those in Sandbach and Little Sutton. And earlier this year we replaced a defibrillator that had been stolen from Nantwich town centre.
Vale Juniors has a solid reputation for youth football, with hundreds of children and teenagers playing in teams from under sevens to under 18s.
In 2018 we sponsored Vale Juniors Bears Under Nines in their first season, funding kits for one squad and hoodies for two squads.
To date, we’ve shared around £10,000 amongst good causes in the Congleton area.
