Selling the family home in later life can be a very daunting task, but with the help of her family and our team, Pat Cummings now lives in the ‘house of her dreams’.
Unable to travel during the national lockdown, Pat turned her attention to her large and rather “unruly” garden at her home in Macclesfield.
The newly restored garden, plus the stamp duty holiday, made it the perfect time for Pat to sell her four-bedroomed family home.
Pat explained: “After losing my husband and my two grown up sons moving out of the house, I was on my own. Although great for when the grandchildren came to stay, the garden was getting too difficult to manage, and it was the ideal time to put it on the market.
“I had three goals, to move closer to my sons, to downsize and de-clutter, and to get some equity out of the house. I also knew I wanted a new build so that everything would be new, there wouldn’t be any hidden defects and I could choose everything I wanted to go into the house.”
Driving through Woodford, Pat decided to call into our Woodford Garden Village development, where she admits to having a ‘light bulb moment’; finding the perfect spot for the next stage of her life, which would also be closer to her family.

Pat explained: “I loved the design, it seemed to have so much character and was very pleasing to the eye. It also had all the things that I had set my heart on – downstairs toilet, en suite, three bedrooms and a reasonable sized, easily manageable garden.
“Even better was this plot being on the edge of the development, and I have a wonderful view over the countryside beyond.”
The Letchworth is home to an open plan kitchen/dining area, a separate lounge, three bedrooms, with an en-suite to the main bedroom, and a family bathroom.
“Being in the middle of a pandemic was probably not the best time to move, especially with solicitors and estate agents being inundated. However I have to say Tyler and Emily in the Redrow sales office were amazing and kept me updated all the time,” said Pat.
“Between moving from my old house and moving into my new Redrow home, I had so much help and information not only from the sales staff but also the site manager who ‘Zoomed’ me through my first fix inspection online.
“They made it so very easy for me. Being a 70 + lady on my own, the thought of selling a property, storing all my stuff, renting for four months then buying a new property and furnishing it was all very daunting.
“I thought this would be way out of my capabilities, but they all helped so much, everyone on site is so helpful and polite and always willing to help.”
Although an unfortunate time for many, Pat admits that without the pandemic and national lockdown she probably would not have put her home on the market and now be the proud owner of a new home.
“My favourite room has to be the kitchen /diner as it is bright and light and looks out over the fields. My birdfeeder is visited by a variety of birds, I spend a lot of time watching them,” said Pat.
“In the summer I sit with the patio doors open, I have the sun here until the evening, the sunsets are wonderful, it is so incredibly peaceful.”
