The Chester-based NW Panthers Back to Netball team received almost £600 from the homebuilder. The funding has been used to kit players out with netball dresses and hoodies. It’s also helped towards the cost of training equipment including netballs, training markers, netball bibs, air pump, first aid kit and agility ladders.
Coach Caroline Williams formed the team last year along with other mums from the Little Sutton, Ledsham and Eastham areas who regularly watched their daughters play.
She explained: “After being pestered by the parents to organise a fun, friendly netball game between the parents who were always on the sidelines, I hosted a friendly match that was a very big hit. From this I started a mixed training session and then a ladies team, which recently joined forces with NW Panthers, based at Chester Catholic High School.”
The only adult team at NW Panthers, the squad plays in the second division of a Back to Netball league at Northgate Arena on Sundays. There are currently 11 players and they have more people looking to join the team.
“The generous sponsorship from Redrow as it has made a huge difference to our netball squad. Before we were kitted out with everything we needed, I had to borrow kit and we were training with old netballs that were in urgent need of replacing,” Caroline added.
“Now we have all the equipment we need to have successful training sessions. It was very noticeable how much different the team felt playing in a proper team kit and it had an impact on our match confidence immediately, with us winning our match on the first day we wore the dresses!”
Supporting good causes close to home is part of our commitment to creating thriving communities.
Since 2016 we have gifted more than £100,000 to community projects across the North West via voluntary community funds launched alongside its new homes developments. The company has also offered practical assistance and materials, including helping with renovations to community centres.
The netball team is among the projects to have shared around £25,000 from a community fund attached to Ledsham Garden Village.
Elaine Mounsey, area sales manager for our North West division said: “It’s great to see children inspiring their parents to stay fit and active. For a new squad like the NW Panthers Back to Netball team, having a matching kit can make a real difference by bringing people together. We hope their new Redrow sponsored kit will bring them lots of luck and that they continue to have fun playing netball.”
