Planning consent paves way for Redrow repeat in Congleton

We’re ready to begin work on a new project in Congleton following planning consent for 454 new homes off Giantswood Lane.

The new development will feature a wide selection of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, including 79 affordable properties to be offered for sale at a discounted market value to meet local need.

A new entrance will be created from Manchester Road forming a tree lined boulevard into the new development.

The first phase of private sale homes is due to go on sale off-plan from Tabley Park in Knutsford this spring.

The go-ahead for this latest 63.5-acre development follows sell-out success of our previous Congleton venture, Cranberry Gardens, and will reaffirm our commitment to bringing our quality new homes and wider community offerings to the town.

Chris Dobson, technical manager for North West, said: “We listened to feedback from the planning committee and worked with the local authority to make a number of modifications to our original plans.

“This included creating house styles that provide the internal floor space and layouts our customers want, with elevations and detailing derived from local context such as adding gables and chimneys, and introducing bespoke render, timber and stone detailing.

“A lot of attention has been paid to the surface materials and boundary treatments used to ensure that they create character and align with the Cheshire East Design Guide.

“These include a range of high-quality treatments including walls, railings and soft landscape,” he added.

Areas of the site are earmarked for a new primary school and local shops and will be subject to future planning applications.

North West managing director Jason Newton said: “This latest Congleton development is the perfect example of Redrow’s ethos to create thriving communities and build responsibly.

“Only around 37 acres of the site is designated for homes and the balance will include the proposed primary school, shops and 12.5 acres of open space. The latter will include several areas for formal and informal play, plus an existing woodland that will be retained as a central feature.

“We’ll also be making contributions worth £10.75 million to the community, including £3.2million for primary education, £6.85 million towards a new link road and £300,000 of bus service improvements.”

We recently sold the last of 198 of our homes at the hugely popular 18-acre Cranberry Gardens, off Macclesfield Road.

As well as homes, Cranberry Gardens has made significant contributions just shy of £500,000 towards local education, over £439,000 towards improving the highways, a £28,000 contribution towards organised sport and recreation and included an equipped play area on the development itself.

We also voluntarily donated £11,000 to a number of local causes, groups and charities, via two established community funds.
