Redrow rolls out circus tickets for vulnerable children

22nd June 2022
Redrow - News - Circus Tickets for Vulnerable Children - Allerton Circus

Clowning around was compulsory for children from two Liverpool schools when we rolled out tickets for a circus.

We teamed up with Cheshire-based Circus Starr to fund tickets for its Big Top performance held in New Brighton enabling children from Palmerston School, which provides high quality education for 11 to 19-year-olds with learning difficulties, and Dovedale Primary School to attend the show.

The community interest company has been delivering inclusive Big Top Circus events for disabled, underprivileged, and vulnerable children across the UK for more than 30 years. Shows are free to the audience thanks to sponsorship from local businesses like us.

Circus Starr originally hoped to use the £500 from our £10,000 Allerton Fund for its 2020 show, but this was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Michelle Crossley, fundraising director at Circus Starr, explained: “Like so many other organisations we had to make the heart-breaking decision to postpone our tours because of COVID-19 and concerns for the wellbeing and vulnerability of our audience. We’re pleased to be back on the road with our big top, bringing a celebration of circus to those who may usually miss out and give them the chance to overcome fears, to explore live performance and try new adventures.

“We believe that every child has the right to have fun regardless of their circumstances. It’s key to forming stronger bonds and creating positive memories to take through life.”

The voluntary fund has been shared between local groups and good causes. It is in addition to our statutory obligations linked to the Allerton Gardens development, off Woolton Road, in Allerton.

Christopher Edwards, area sales manager for North West, said: “Children and adults alike love having time out to enjoy lots of laughs at the circus, but we appreciate that it’s not always easy, particularly when a family member has additional needs. Circus Starr’s show offers those families the chance to experience live entertainment in a relaxed setting. We were happy to be able to help cover the cost of tickets and hope everyone who attended enjoyed the performance.”

Allerton Gardens is virtually sold out, but we’re busy planning the next sales release for neighbouring development The Groves, which will include a collection of three and four-bedroom homes.
