Belgrave Primary School received £1,200 via the community fund linked to new homes being built less than half a mile away at Kings Moat Garden Village.
They used the funding to purchase a reading hut pupils can access during play and lunchtimes and enjoy independent reading with adult supervision from a distance.
Governor Karen Chaplin explained: “We applied to Redrow’s community fund for help developing reading zones within school to promote a love of reading for pleasure. Pupils are benefiting from being able to access the reading hut independently during play times and lunch times. We know that all children can benefit from working outside the traditional classroom environment and The Reading Hut is a space where they can enjoy the sights and sounds of outdoors while reading or being read to for learning or pleasure.”
Belgrave Primary was among the good causes local to Kings Moat Garden Village to share a £10,000 voluntary community fund linked to the development.
Area sales manager Caroline Thompson-Jones said: “Reading is an important skill for children to develop and we were happy to be able to support Belgrave Primary School by providing funding for the reading hut. It’s a lovely cosy space where they can enjoy books in a relaxed atmosphere. Hopefully it will encourage more children to read for pleasure and develop a life long love of reading.”
