Sutton Green Primary School won the prize after one of its pupils won our 'Fit for a King' competition to mark the coronation of King Charles III earlier this year.
Schoolchildren across West Cheshire were invited by us to draw and design a royal residence with Sutton Green’s former pupil Evelyn winning the top prize.
Anna Evans-Kerr, sales director for our North West division, said: “We’re so pleased to have been able to construct this reading hut in the grounds of Sutton Green Primary School, after choosing one of their pupil’s fantastic designs as our ‘Fit for a King’ winner. The children, and in particular the overall competition winner Evelyn, showed wonderful creativity. Evelyn has left a lasting legacy for her former school, now that she has moved on to high school, and we hope it’s enjoyed by the pupils for many years to come.”
Evelyn, 11, based her design on the King’s love of gardening and stargazing.
Head teacher Mr Stark said: “We are delighted to win the new reading hut for our school, which is a great addition to our outdoor learning facilities and helps bring the children's love of reading outside. It really supports our aim of increasing opportunities to read for pleasure. Evelyn has left her former schoolmates a wonderful gift to commemorate the coronation year and we’re grateful to Redrow for delivering this and constructing it for us.”
