The Portskewett and Sudbrook under-14 football team will be warm this winter following support from our Mill Meadows development near Caldicot.
The team is based at the Recreation Ground in Portskewett, less than a mile from Mill Meadows, a beautiful development of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes set between the two famous bridges on the stunning Severn Estuary.
So it made sense for team manager, Jamie Grannell to approach the local sales team.
“To be honest, we weren’t very hopeful as this just after lockdown, but Redrow quickly came back to say they’d be happy to provide every squad member with a mid-layer jacket,” he says.
“We were delighted – we’re all volunteers, we only started in 2019, and we absolutely rely on local businesses’ support.”
Jamie started the junior team as there wasn’t one locally. He says being affordable as well as close to home means more local boys and girls can play.
“This support is really important as it means there are no barriers for kids to play. It can be really expensive for parents to pay for kit, whereas we can give them these Redrow jackets for them to wear during training and warm-ups as well as to school, which some of them are already doing. They really like them!”
Kat Tonks, sales consultant at Mill Meadows, said the development would benefit as much as the wider community.
“We don’t just build lovely homes, we also focus on creating thriving communities where our customers can enjoy recreation close to home,” she said.
“Part of that is contributing to existing local community activities and we’re delighted to support both Jamie, who does all this in his spare time, and, of course, the team. Some of our younger residents are already players with the club and we hope more will sign up, too!”
