Redrow has stepped up to support Winscombe Hall Care Home’s ongoing Wall Garden project amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Located in the Mendip Hills, Winscombe Hall Care Home provides care for elderly residents and seniors tackling dementia. The 26-bedroom Victorian country mansion combines a stimulating environment which helps improve quality of life for those who need care.
Split into two specialist wings, Winscombe Hall comprises of The Hall which provides nursing and residential care and Stable Cottage, which offers specialised Dementia and Alzheimer’s care.
Before the UK went into full lockdown Winscombe Hall Care Home was making plans to turn its unused outside swimming pool into a walled garden where residents and visitors could enjoy the scenic views of the estate. However, these plans unfortunately had to be put on hold because of the pandemic.
Our area sales manager, Charlotte Newnes, and Kim Buckett, construction manager at Woodborough Grange, our newest development in the region, offered their support to the home to help in the first steps to creating this tranquil space.
Situated next to the home’s courtyard and onsite café for residents and visitors, the disused swimming pool had become overgrown and full of rainwater. Our team coordinated with Winscombe Hall Care Home so that they could safely carry out work and keep to Government guidelines on social distancing.
To kickstart the project our employees drilled holes into the unused swimming pool to drain it of all the rainwater. The team then emptied the area of remaining rubbish and filled the soon to be wall garden with excess rubble from our Woodborough Grange site, allowing the next steps of the project to commence.
When asked about our support, Annie Cowell, operations manager at Winscombe Hall Care Home said; “Our residents’ experience and ease is of the upmost importance to us here at Winscombe Hall. That is why we have invested so much into making our outside areas as comfortable for them as possible.
“We have a lot of senior residents here who love coming outside to sit and watch the world go by, as well as taking their family and friends around the grounds when they come to visit. We wanted to create a space which is peaceful and reflects the sensory courtyard we built for our residents that live in the dementia wing.
“This project is all about family values, spending time with loved ones and allowing residents to relax in a safe space. I can’t quite thank Redrow enough, Covid-19 has been tough for the care industry and thanks to their hard work we have a bit of fresh air and it allows us to start making a positive difference to all of our residents and visitors.”
Commenting on the project and work that they carried out, our South West area sales manager, Charlotte Newnes, said: “We are committed to helping the local community in the areas where we build homes and I couldn’t be prouder that we got to play a part in such a positive project.
“We strive to integrate ourselves in the local area and make sure we get involved in an array of initiatives and charities and I’m pleased to say that the pandemic has not stopped us. It has been a pleasure to support Winscombe Hall Care Homes’ newest venture.”
