Southern Counties team planned a fun and educational activity for pupils from the local Old Basing Infant School, located in Basingstoke. The team provided the school with vegetable growing kits, comprising multi-coloured plant pots, watering cans, gloves and more to provide an opportunity for them to learn while having some fun!
The activity not only provided the students with an enjoyable experience but also educational opportunities on topics such as healthy eating, nature and plants. On the day, they chose from a variety of vegetable seeds including peas, carrots, butternut squash and broccoli. The pupils spent a class outside, filling the pots with soil while learning about the different vegetables, before planting the seeds in their pots, using the fork, trowel and rake provided, and using the gifted watering cans to hydrate the soil.
Both class teachers and Jo Rothstein, a sales consultant at nearby Cromwell Court development, helped the students as they sowed their seeds in the sunshine. The students can look forward to enjoying the fruits (and vegetables) of their labour.
Mark Vanson, Sales Director at Redrow Southern Counties, commented: “We’re so pleased to be able to share this experience with the children at the Old Basing Infant School. We hope we have provided the pupils with an inspiring, enjoyable activity that encourages them to celebrate and embrace their green-fingered talents! We hope to continue our relationship with the staff and children alike and offer more opportunities to get involved with the wonderful pupils at the school.”
Lou Grainger, Reception teacher at Old Basing Infant School remarked, “We are so pleased we were able to bring this experience to two classes of pupils in year one and reception. The kids had a fantastic time getting stuck into planting their seeds and enjoyed such a wonderful lesson outside in the sunshine. It is great to be able to bring a lesson to life with resources such as the vegetable kits, so thank you again to Redrow for providing these, and coming along to help.”
