We have donated £250 as the main sponsor of an Easter book hunt for children in Waterlooville, covering the cost of hundreds of books for the inaugural event.
Organised by From Readers to Leaders, a local pop-up book shop, the book hunt will be running for a week throughout and beyond the bank holiday weekend (16th-23rd April).
Children across Waterlooville are to take part and look for the selection of books hidden throughout our development Elm Green and the wider area of Waterlooville, with clues to the hiding places posted on From Readers to Leaders’ social media channels. Once a book is found and read, the finder is encouraged to re-hide the book for someone else to find and enjoy.
The aim of the book hunt is to inspire children in the local community to develop a love for books and reading, whilst also providing a fun activity for families over the Easter holidays.
In addition to the free books for the children to find, the event will also provide activity packs and a colouring or story writing competitions, further encouraging participants’ interaction with the hidden books.
Sarah Goeritz, Event Organiser and Founder of From Readers to Leaders, commented: “As a mother of three children and a Teaching Assistant in a local primary school, I am very passionate about putting books into children’s hands, encouraging them not only to learn how to read but also to enjoy reading for pleasure. With Redrow’s generous support, I feel both proud and excited to be organising a fun project for the children in our local community. I can't wait to see pictures and hear stories about the books that have been found, and will hopefully catch a glimpse of a few smiles on the faces of the lucky finders.”
Lizzie Bowden, Marketing Manager for Southern Counties, commented: “We are delighted to be supporting such a thoughtful and creative initiative, available to our residents and the wider community in Waterlooville. This book hunt provides a great opportunity to spread the joy and magic of reading, and we look forward to seeing the many families taking part over the Easter weekend.”
As part of the hunt, books will be hidden throughout Elm Green, our community of homes at the Berewood Garden Community. A combination of three- and four-bedroom homes are available, taken from our award-winning Heritage Collection, and prices start from £389,950.
