In June earlier this year, Jeff (68) and Lata (68), purchased a home one street down from their daughter Hazleen (36) at Orchids Place, our community of homes in Warfield, Berkshire.
Former care-home owner Jeff and his wife Lata opted for a four-bedroom Balmoral, while Hazleen chose a three-bedroom Oxford Lifestyle for herself and her new born baby on the neighbouring street. They have all relocated from Cumbria to be closer to each other along with their wider family based in London just 35 miles away.
According to new research conducted this Autumn, over a third of those living in the South East region said they were prioritising seeing family and friends following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, with 37% ranking it as the top requirement if they were to move home in the next six months.
Unlike purchasing a home on the second-hand market, opting for a new-build often allows family members or friends to purchase a home on the same street or development with the ability to buy off-plan and select from the available plots.
Jeff explained: “We are delighted to be living one street down from Hazleen and our grandchild so we can be hands-on grandparents. The ability to live closer to family was one of the most important factors for us when it came to choosing the location to retire. We were keen to be near our relatives in London, but we didn’t want to live in an urban area, so Warfield seemed like an ideal location. It contains the rural charm and green surroundings, with easy access to the Capital.”
Hazleen said: “I love the fact that my parents live only a stone’s throw away from me. In fact, they have purchased the house directly behind mine, providing invaluable support when it comes to looking after my daughter Siya. The pandemic has certainly demonstrated the importance of family and living in a neighbourly community, particularly as a new mum. It’s amazing to be able to share the important milestones with my parents and the other young families living at Orchids Place. I couldn’t imagine a better environment to be bringing up my child.”
The more the merrier
In addition to living in the same community as Hazleen, Jeff and Lata’s other daughter Tasha will be moving into their home next year after returning from Dubai, and their third daughter Roneeta is already a regular guest, staying in the spare bedroom for long weekends when visiting from her home in Edgware, North London.
Jeff and Lata therefore knew they’d need a house with multiple bedrooms and open-plan communal spaces which is what led them to purchasing the four-bedroom Balmoral, taken from our award winning Heritage Collection which combines modern interiors with traditional Arts & Crafts exteriors, archetypal of 1930s architecture.
Jeff explained: “The layout is designed perfectly to meet our family’s needs, with multiple living spaces downstairs, a large kitchen and double garage. We preferred Redrow’s homes to other new build developers as the rooms are generously proportioned, enabling the whole family to gather and live together comfortably.”
With Orchid’s Place proving popular with the whole Patel family, Hazleen’s cousin Romaal is now considering purchasing a home there, widening their family unit in the area.
Now fully complete, Orchids Place is a thriving community of 116 homes and prices start at £529,950. As the community is almost sold-out, we’ve submitted proposals for a further 30 homes on the adjacent land which will be known as Orchids Court.
Direct trains to London Waterloo from Bracknell station take just 62 minutes, while Heathrow airport is a short 30-minute journey by car, perfect for holidaymakers and those who travel for work.
With Bracknell town centre located only 2 miles away, the development has already attracted multiple families. Residents are in close proximity to many well-regarded schools as well a collection of independent pubs and restaurants together with sports and leisure facilities.
