Redrow Makes it Sweet Sixteen in Quality Stakes

Sixteen Redrow site managers have scooped top industry awards for the quality of their developments.

They’re among just 430 of the UK’s 13,000 site manager to pick up a National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ award this year.

The 16 winners will now compete to be among only 130 recipients of ‘Seals of Excellence’ that will be announced in autumn.

John Tutte, Redrow’s group managing director, commented: “Sixteen Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ awards in one year is one of our best ever achievements and three more than last year.  All of the winning site managers have worked hard to ensure that their sites are managed to exceptional standards.”

Redrow’s 2012 ‘Quality’ award winners include Syd James, site manager at Glynderwen Meadows, in Oakdale, Caerphilly, who last year progressed to be named one of the top three site managers in Wales in the same competition. At the time, the judging panel said: “the quality of foundation and substructure work on Syd’s new site is the best ever seen in the region.”

The latest tally also includes a 10th Pride in the Job award – and third in a row - for Matt Knight, Redrow site manager at Oakwood Grange in Great Wyrley, Staffs.

Matt said: “I’ve kept my focus and determination and raised my game to improve standards because the competition for the awards is so tough. It doesn’t get any easier.”

Matt oversees up to 70 people working on the new homes at Oakwood Grange and added: “It’s a team effort and I couldn’t have won without the help and hard work of everyone on site.”

Seven times ‘Quality’ award and three times ‘Seal of Excellence’ winner Fred Muller concurs that it’s very much a team effort.  Fred, in charge of construction at The Grange in Maidstone, Kent, said: “I’m so pleased to have received my seventh Quality award but I couldn’t do it without the team I work alongside. The awards are a highlight of each year and I’m hoping that winning another continues to motivate the team here on site.”

Only site managers who demonstrate exceptional standards in every aspect of their work on site and the homes they build are considered for a Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ award.

Judging includes spot checks of the day-to-day running of the site. Each site manager is assessed across 38 areas of site management including their technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and leadership and organisational skills.
