These are just a few of the views and habits housebuilder Redrow Homes discovered when it surveyed over 5,000 people in a bid to find out what makes our nation’s homebuyers tick.
From who they prefer coming home to (62% said their partner), to their ideal dinner guest (56% said Stephen Fry when offered a choice of the comedian, the Dalai Lama and Beyoncé), the survey asked a series of questions designed to find out people’s likes, dislikes and what home really means to them.
Results showed 64% of people consider layout to be the most important aspect of their home while ‘space’ came out top when people were asked what they look for in a new home.
Gardens are resoundingly for relaxing, or so say more than half of us, with just 29% enjoying gardening itself. Most people still eat the majority of their meals at a dining table (38%) closely followed by the 30% of us who opt to dine in front of the TV, and 32% who tuck in in the kitchen.
Only 2% of people wished to live in a city apartment – a traditional home was the most popular choice at 45% and 37% preferred a more modern design.
Group sales and marketing director for Redrow Dave Bexon said: “For most people, their home is the biggest single purchase they’ll make in their lifetime and we recognise that choosing the right one, which suits them perfectly, is a huge and emotionally charged decision. As we are in the business of building something so important and potentially life changing, we wanted to find out what people cared most about.
“We are proud to be celebrating our 40th anniversary this year and we are constantly looking for ways we can update and improve the design of our homes for our customers. By asking people about their lifestyle, habits and interior preferences we gain valuable insight into how we can design and build homes they aspire to.”
Redrow Homes has developments across England and Wales. A total of 5,208 people responded to the What Makes a House and Home’ survey.
