Spotlight on Moston transformation

The transformation of Moston is continuing apace as a new housing venture has been officially opened by Manchester City Council’s executive member for housing and regeneration, Cllr Jeff Smith.

This week the development was given an opportunity to shine in front of local community representatives, city councillors, property industry professionals and suppliers, subcontractors and business advisers, who have been involved in getting the project to this stage.

The official launch celebrated the opening of a new showhome from Redrow’s popular Heritage Collection at Abbot Gardens. The development of two, three and four-bedroom homes is the latest in a series of ventures by Redrow which are helping to transform the area.

Cllr Jeff Smith said: “It has given me great pleasure to be here at the opening of Abbot Gardens, a development that will provide more high quality homes to meet local demand.

“Redrow has played a huge part in transforming this area of north Manchester and we’re extremely pleased that the Moston community has a range of fantastic new homes to choose from.

“I hope the development will help first-time buyers get a foot on the property ladder and give existing homeowners a chance to move up or expand.”

Abbot Gardens is the latest phase of a major scheme to redevelop parts of Moston and Harpurhey, which was recognised with the title ‘Residential Scheme of the Year’ at the 2014 Insider North West Property Awards. It follows on from earlier phases, Woodville Gardens, Hanson Gardens, Kenyon Gardens and St John Gardens.

The latest homes all hail from the housebuilder’s critically acclaimed Heritage Collection, which marries Arts & Crafts-style exteriors with contemporary 21st century interiors. Additionally, the homes boast plus special measures to make them extra energy and water efficient.

The newly opened three-bedroom ‘Brecon’ showhome is open daily from 10am to 5.30pm and will allow potential customers to appreciate the quality and attention to detail of these homes.

Thanking Cllr Smith for taking time out of a busy diary to open the showhomes, Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), added: “Today’s event is an opportunity for members of the local community to see what we have achieved already and to share our vision for future phases.

“We’ve created a range of homes for young people, couples and families in both Moston and Harpurhey, as well as supporting local amenities like the Factory Youth Zone and Moston and Collyhurst Lads Club. Abbot Gardens is our latest showpiece and hopefully demonstrates our commitment to making lasting improvements in the area.”

Redrow began it regeneration project back in spring 2010, and has since been helping to transform this part of north Manchester in partnership with the City Council, while providing new homes and jobs for local people.

As well as building new homes, the housebuilder has invested almost £400,000 on highway improvements in the neighbourhood; resurfacing roads, replacing footpaths and installing traffic calming measures at key junctions. This work and the construction of the homes themselves has been carried out with the help of local labour and complements the City Council’s own multi-million pound improvements in the area.

The newly opened tramline puts Manchester city centre only 10 minutes away.
