Banks club bowled over by Redrow support

A bowling club near Southport is celebrating hitting the ‘jack’ after reaching its fundraising target for new floodlights.

The popular community club, located on Hoole Lane, Banks, has been raising money for the new lights which will enable all of its members to play later into the evening during the autumn and winter months.

After Banks Bowling Club had raised money with an open day and received a grant from Lancashire County Council, Redrow Homes also pitched in with a cheque for £250 to roll the total up to what was needed to replace all four lights around the green.

Club chairman Stuart Atkinson said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Redrow for the sponsorship as it means our league playing teams, along with all the other members who come along to play on a more ad hoc basis, have the opportunity to play for longer.

“We have a few members who like to come along and play after work and we sometimes get schoolchildren coming along after school, so it’s really important that we have efficient lights around the green.

“The club is known for its community feel and while we have 80 members who play competitively made up of seven ladies’ teams and five men’s teams, we also have lots of members who like to come down and simply play socially on the green.”

Just a stone’s throw from the club Redrow is building a collection of three and four-bedroom homes at The Coppice.

Claire Jarvis, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), said: “Redrow loves to get involved in the communities in which it builds and so it makes perfect sense to us to help out a club that is so well known in Banks and caters for so many locals. We hope the new lights encourage new people to the club and that they’re able to enjoy bowling into the evenings as the nights get darker.”

The Coppice features homes from Redrow’s popular Heritage Collection and current availability ranges from three-bedroom semi-detached properties at £199,995 up to £289,995 for a spacious four-bedroom detached ‘Cambridge’.

The award-winning Heritage Collection marries traditional exteriors with high specification 21st century interiors. Built with modern family living firmly in mind, the homes boast open plan kitchen, dining and living areas at their heart.

Location-wise they’re ideal for those who commute to Southport, Preston and Liverpool. Along with the bowling club, Banks has several other local amenities including convenience shops, a leisure centre and two primary schools.
