Choosing Redrow was our master move

Accountant Colin Lees knows a thing or two about numbers, so when he added up the pros and cons of a brand new property in Oldham there was only conclusion.

“Everything about it made sense,” said Colin. “From the incentives offered by Redrow to the advantages of moving from an older property, which needed lots of maintenance, to a new-build with nothing to do for years.

“Plus we love the area and location of Meadow View, in Moorside, where we have chosen to move, and the four-bedroom Shrewsbury detached home is better than anything we could ever have imagined owning. It’s perfect.”

Colin, 31, and Emma, 32, started looking for a new home for themselves and two young children Charlie and Robyn, when it became increasingly obvious that their three-bedroom terraced cottage was far from fitting for a family.

“We had been in the cottage for seven or eight years and we loved it,” said Colin. “It was built in the 1700s and Grade II listed, it has lovely beams and is full of character.

“But while it had been renovated by a builder just before we moved in, like all older properties there was frequently work needed and money being spent which we hadn’t envisaged.

“Added to that there was no parking outside - and we simply wanted more space.”

The couple had put their house up for sale a couple of years ago with no success and, when the idea to sell re-emerged, were thinking about part-exchange.

“Unfortunately part-ex wasn’t an option for our house at the development we looked at, but it did get us looking at new-build and all its advantages,” Colin explained.

“We Googled what else was on offer because we wanted to stay in the area, near to family and work for myself and Emma who, when she isn’t on maternity leave, will return to her job as an optician.

“We liked Redrow’s Shrewsbury because it had the space we wanted with a bedroom each for the children plus one for them to play in, and we loved the open space of the kitchen/dining area with the separate lounge.”

The couple turned to Redrow’s Mastermove scheme to help sell their old cottage. It’s an incentive designed especially for those with an existing home to sell.

“Using Mastermove helped hugely. Redrow organised an estate agent to value and market our house and we got an offer from the first person to view just two days after it went up!” said Colin.

“It meant there was one less thing to worry about - and Redrow will pay our estate agent fees. We are now staying with relatives until March when, hopefully, our lovely new home will be ready.”

Meadow View is ideally placed for families and commuters. It’s a semi-rural location on the edge of Oldham; Greenfield Station is just 15 minutes away from where you can travel to Manchester city centre in only 35 minutes, and Huddersfield in 20. And, for the motorist, the M60 and M62 are only a 15 minute drive away with access to the north west and beyond.

The development itself is close to a range of amenities and leisure facilities and within easy reach of Oldham town centre.
